look at low carb diets, i managed to stave off going on insulin 3 months ago.

carbs spike your blood sugar so it makes sense to reduce them as much as posible. i rarely eat potatoes, pasta, rice, bread etc.

"insulin is better"

better than what?

i'd rather take pills and watch my diet than have to inject myself every day and worry about taking the wrong type at the wrong time at the wrong amount.

i understand some dont have a choice but for those that do its definitely not better imo

I'm in my 6th year of a low-carb diet and my last HbA1c was 4.6 and no meds.

The only time it impacts on my swinging life is the lack of things I can eat at the Chams buffet!

My OH half has been an insulin diabetic since the age of four, doesn't really affect him, does annoy me though sometimes he is so poorly controlled!

Evie, that is a magnificent result and you should be very proud of your efforts, things do creep in but you know what to do.

I forgot to ask you, are you on *that* diabetic forum?

Leeds.

I (Andy) am type 1. Diagnosed at 31 after going for quite some time undiagnosed. I use novo-rapid with meals and levemir on a night (long lasting background insulin).

My last hba1c was 7.5 which indicates good control. I checked my blood ketones earlier and they were 0.1 which is excellent.

Before being diagnosed I suffered from erectile dysfunction. But, and I am very happy to say this, gradually after diagnosis normal service was resumed and has stayed that way.

In the 12 years since diagnosis I've had maybe 2 or 3 hypo's during nookie. So nothing too bad really. A quick chocky bar and back to the job at hand lol.

I some times feel a hypo coming on during sex with Ebonie but a banana introduced in to the fun soon sorts that out

Our daughter has is diabetic. She got it when she was six, she is 12 now. She takes 6 shots a day before every meal. So proud of her that she does everything herself.

One of my sons is type 1 and I remember how upset and worried I was when he was first diagnosed. But he just took it all in his stride and accepted how it was.

It certainly got us used to working out a good balanced diet and carb counting!!
