Just read about last night's comment.

I didn't know the Poles were a race, I thought they were a nationality. How can the media get that wrong?

On the other hand, are you genuinely offended or do you see it as harmlessly as it was likely meant?

They didnt, they simply reported that people had called it a racist remark..

Do we want input from from TV pundits or should they just read from an already approved script on autocue. That Robbie Fowler had to apologise for saying someone was playing like a girl is comical.

Clearly we don't live in silence.

All that 'PC do-gooders' ask is that maybe we could not make stupid jokes based on gender, sexuality, race or nationality.

How unreasonable to ask people to consider their language...

Lol Chiles is prone to being a dick, that much is true. But having to stay silent in fear of offending people shouldnt be the case.

Just seems that way because the media likes to sensationalise (makes them more profit by outraging people).

I also have a Polish friend who would have laughed it off. Though I've yet to find out if he did... or what it's like to be branded as a different race lol

"What did he say? "

Chiles:

“And it’s practically a home game for Poland – 15,000 Poles will be in here, I’m sure.”

And then when Lee Dixon responded Dixon responded:

“Hopefully, they’re all crying at the end” he added:

“I’m trying to get some building work done at the moment, quite seriously. Be careful”

Taken out of context then?

Seriously, I think a good point that you need a sense of humour to live in England.

As PC as your office and retail jobs might be, European nations taking the piss out of each other is one of our favourite things to do.

A moaning bastard is always going to make twice as much noise if not more than someone who just smiles and shrugs it off, so maybe wait to hear what the nation of Poland and all its citizens and ex-citizens have to say about it.

That's what I'm saying, it's national not racist. As for offensive, I think people are just offended that it's Adrian Chiles saying it.

And quite rightly so. It's been long established that those terms are offensive. So now they have nothing better to do than scream and yell from their soapboxes about every single little indiscretion or harmless offhand remark. It's frankly pathetic and I find it offensive that they feel they should express offence for a country/people who quite frankly couldn't give a flying fuck what he said because it was mildly amusing.

Seriously?

Marginalise

Learning disabilities, mental illness, the elderly are all in vulnerable groups who find themselves marignalised on a regular basis. Children are bullied using abusive language fairly regularly and people with mental illness are spoken about in a fairly demeaning way in regular every day language. You may not, but then maybe you're so PC that you don't need to watch your language.

I haven't covered racism here as that's a whole new level of abuse which I'm not as qualified to speak about.

Ok, just for you.

In Winterbourne view, look it up on the internet.

The language used was demeaning (as well as the behaviour) it was a home for people with learning disabilities who were treated appallingly and as sub humans.

Really?

So we don't marginalise, abuse or demean people anymore? Really?

Well I don't. Do you? Examples please. Thx.

Seriously?

The comment in question has nothing to do with any of those things and no one has said that defending peoples civil rights is a bad thing. Just that when it comes to offhand remarks things have gone too far....

Jeez!!"

The problem is, that defending people's civil rights was something that the left wing pc brigade did quite a lot of. Again, what he said about Polish people/Poland and the stereotypes wasn't particularly offensive to anyone Polish or otherwise, it wasn't that bit I was objecting to. It was the idea that political correctness has gone too far, I don't think it has.

I agree with the core of your argument, I truly do, its what I spend my working life doing. But you've gone off at such a tangent that you've missed the whole point of the thread!

So ill simplify.

Breaches of human and civil rights no matter who's are abhorrent and should not be condoned.

Poor attempts at humour by portly west midlanders should just be ignored.

The thing about "PC gone too far" is just weird. Is Adrian Chiles in jail? No. He's just had some criticism.

Criticism is going too far now? We cannot say 'that's stupid/insensitive' in case it's too 'PC'?

The thing is that in a comedy venue or as part of a script in a tv show or movie no one would bat an eye lid but as an impromptu joke by a footy pundit on live tv the Great British tradition of being offended on someone else's behalf rears it's exceedingly ugly head

Because courtesy of PC it's now a Great British tradition.

Listen to Radio 5, lots of phone in stuff and a 'bloody' from a caller will have the presenter rushing to apologise in case some poor innocent has been morally corrupted, madness

There's a difference between a comedian in a club or a character saying it, and a football presenter saying it. Think about it for more than five minutes and it becomes obvious.

Fuck, I'm so tired of lazy stereotyping being criticised and all people have to say in response is PC GONE MAD!!!!!

Because the really important thing when trying to improve society, to improve the way minorities are treated, is that we don't go too far in criticising those who have more of the power. Yeah.

can only imagine the itv took it as h was actually replying to Lee Dixon

'yesl lets hope, cuz thye are a bunch of c**ts'

its a ridiculously over the top reaction.

he didnt say most Poles work in the construction industry, he made a vague remark that 'possibly' he has Polish builders doing some work for him (although i seem to remember him making the same 'joke' before the last Poland game.)

Adrian Chiles is a lot more embarrassing for being a miserable bugger than this gaff.
