Just over 10 weeks to go! Who's looking forward to it and have started shopping?

Shopping all done and dusted since January wrapped in febuary so roll on Xmas. And I put a tenner on the asda card every week when I do a shop. Helps pay for the booze and food I never eat.

I always loved Xmas but the last few years it seemed as though something was missing but that being said I am looking forward to this year as I will be sharing it with my twincesses they will be nearly 11 months by then so a nice age to enjoy it I think.

And all my shopping is done bar the wrapping paper, gift tags etc

Christmas is a strange one for me, no matter of circumstance. The way I see it is:

1) It is for children so if you have children or will be with one for Christmas, you will probably enjoy it more mostly through sentiment.

2) It is some time of work (albeit likely taken from holiday compulsorily) to spend with family friends.

I guess it has a certain charm to it but I just don't like the build up and constant shennanigans before it which makes it tired before it even gets near. I'm all for cracking out the decorations and whatnot however (no christmas carols though).

Minnie etc - I think we should have a "anyone who hates Christmas join this thread" thread on Christmas Day.

Don't want to spoil it for people who enjoy it (though it beats me why anyone does), so all the Christmas haters can congregate in there and have a right old moan.

I wouldn't mind it so much if it was a couple of weeks, like it was when I was a kid. I can't stand it going on for months (there's a hotel in my city who had decorations up in mid September and I'm originally from a town where all the hotels have them up from late October).

If I ruled the country, I'd ban the outing up of decorations before three weeks before (feeling generous there)!

Bah flipping humbug.

I'll be camping over Christmas, from Sun to Sat, and shall commute from the camp site to work on Mon and Tue as it is closer to work than from home.

Menus for Christmas and Boxing Days already planned, can't wait!

There are elements of Christmas that I like but they are in the minority.

There is no other time of year guaranteed to constantly remind you that you are totally estranged from you family. People expect you to see family and when you say you aren't too many feel some god given right to lecture you that you should get in touch...

It's my birthday on Christmas Eve. My sympathy goes out to anyone who haa a birthday at Christmas and I suspect you may share the slight resentment of how your birthday is overlooked.

On a more practical level the week after at work is unbearably busy.

And I hate the crass commercialism that only serves to prove how obsessed much of society is with materialism.

Fucking love watching Dr Who though!

I have volunteered on Christmas day before and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The great marketeers tell us that we have to have an "event" every 4 to 6 weeks because we are a consumer society driven by the needs of the multinational companies;

January - New Year

February - Valentines Day

March - Mothers day (and St Pats day)

April - Easter (usually)

May - Two Ban Holidays

June - Fathers day

July - Holiday

August - Holiday

September - Back to school

October - Halloween (God help us)

November Guy Fawkes or Bommy night to those old enough.

December - Christmas

We need a monthly fix of consumerism and a need to be told what to spend time and money on and perhaps Christmas is the biggest example of how the life of the ordinary Joe (and Joanne) is to some extent manipulated by such events............bah humbug rules ok!

I absolutely love Christmas. Its the best time of year for me.

Me and my brother always swap our "Christmas" lists and go out getting what we can get off the list. We always get something that is not on the lists which adds the element of surprise.

What I also love doing at Christmas is putting up the decorations, decorating the tree, doing the Christmas shopping and wrapping the presents all while listening to Christmas music on my MP3 player

I love the smell of Christmas, mulled wine, cinnamon, spices, pine trees. The food, I make spiced biscuits, logs (well try to), cakes....yummy.

Would be nice to snuggle up with someone this year for a change though, might borrow someone

Ive actually got loads planned to do over christmas and new year, as my dad had a heartattack and went into a coma on the 23rd of december last year and we switched his life support of on the 1st of january so you can imagine it wasnt a very nice christmas.
