curse words

In a perfect world by daughter would not say 'bloomin eck' but she does.. i secretly find it amusing (dont let her know this and act not impressed when she repeats it)..

How bad is it a curse word as ive had a mouthful from a parent who's angel says 'fuck'.. yet they think bloomin eck is awful

Is there a curse word list of offensiveness?? Lol

Brighton - even Hove!

I suppose the more graphically sexual or scatological the word, the worse it is. In Japan, at least in the 1950's, they had no effective swear words and would simply say 'shimata' (I think, CBA to google it) which means 'I have made a mistake'.

Think it's all subjective. I don't like constant swearing, but don't think there is any curse word I really get offended by...however I despise the word 'slag' even though I don't mind words like slut.

My Mum told me off for saying 'Frick' before now because she reckons I'm just meaning 'Fuck' but I'm not...well not most of the time!

I'm very much the same. I don't like the kids saying bloody, but then I also discourage words like crap and stupid.

I got told off as a teenager for calling my brother a tosspot within hearing of my mum.

I don't think bloomin' 'eck is much of a swear word. Fuck is definitely worse.

personally I don't think anyone can be annoyed at a child who swears because they are coping them

kids are like parrots they say everything they hear

i've heard it a few times where kids have swore and their mum has smacked them shouting don't let me hear you fucking swear again

I try not to swear but a lot of curse words have become ingrained in the common vernacular its hard to avoid them sometimes. I will use Feck! A lot i blame Father Ted for that.

My gran rest her soul, when she got going she would make a Docker blush and taught me a few words i didnt know about.

I swear like a trooper, people think I have Tourette's at times but it's automatically gone around my son and any child without having to think about it.

I've never sworn in front of my parents or children. My children don't swear in front of me neither do their partners...with the exception of my son-in-law. His vile mother is a foul mouthed d*unk so quelle surprise. They live near them, daresay my grandchildren will have potty mouths.

I cringe when I hear young kids swearing and their moronic parents giggling at them.

Good point. I don't swear around children although very occasionally a rogue "bloody" will slip out.

I'd feel terrible if I taught someone else's child a rude word, never mind a swear word.

I didn't swear around my previous partners parents either because they didn't swear. I do try not to offend people.

Same words but with different meanings quite often. Fanny being just one example.

I do swear im not perfect but luckily my daughter has only repeated it once and i didnt make any fuss nor tell her off.

I was slightly impressed though she remembered the word and put it in the right context though (obviously she wasnt aware of my thoughts lol) but just was a reminder just how much her language is coming on and how quick her vocabulary is developing.

Again ive been lucky that she hasnt picked up too many phrases from nursery that havent come from me or other children.

I've always been of the opinion that if its in context does it really matter? They'll hear/use bad language at school and anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional. At least if they're using it correctly then it shows they're mastering the art of communication in its current state. I'd be far more concerned if they said 'lol' instead of laughing....

I'm a proper grown up, married mortgage and a mum but I still don't swear in front of my parents or nan. My dad was very strict on many things including cursing, I remember being grounded aged 12 for calling someone a cow!!

As for my kids now they are at school they are picking up all kinds. Just this week my daughter asked what wank was!! Apparently there is a kid in her class who uses it to convey something is rubbish. God knows why because I've never had a shit wank

For me it's about respect. I think it's disrespectful to use bad language in front of my parents and in front of children. Yrs we know they are going to hear it elsewhere but they need to learn when it's appropriate to use it.

They do indeed which was my point about context. If I asked my son how his day was and he said "fuckin' shit dad" he'd get a slap! But if he fell out of the chimney while was was cleaning it and barked his shin and said "fuck me, that hurt" I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest.

Scientific studies have show that swearing or cursing can actually help with pain!
