This is a new idea from uefa. Using the friendly fixture calendar (friendlys would be scrapped as they are meaningless).

A number of divisions dependant on ranking. Perhaps a four year competition. Teams can be promoted or relegated and the division one winners get good trophy and cash.

Would stop players feigning injury to avoid playing the friendly, make it competitive and better for the spectator.

Proposed divisions are Scotland in div 6. England in div 1. (bit of a joke as Belgium currently ranked 6th but in div 3)

So would this be a good idea? I can see the point in scrapping friendly matches and making more competitive. Squads would try harder and field better squads in hope or promotion of avoiding relegation.

Downside would be less minnows vs giants games as teams may be floundering in their division for years. Would still get good ties (eng-sco, Wales brazil) etc via the euros and the world cup.

What's your thoughts? Would it be more interesting to watch? Give national squads more competitive games. More tv revenue (no doubt how they thought of this!)

I don't see what is wrong with the way things are now.

"I don't see what is wrong with the way things are now. "

Too many teams take friendly fixtures as a joke. Players skive. Managers field under par teams. Very poor for spectator and gate returns. Perhaps if there was something to play for might improve. God knows the national home country squads need fixtures to improve.

dont want a national league.

i want a home nations league.

on the friendly calendar, when they have friendly double headers, have 1 home nations match, and one normal friendly.

that way, those that want to play in the home nations league match, would HAVE to be fit for the friendly

Problem there would be the same team finishing 1st,2nd, 3rd and 4th perpetually

how do you work that out?

freak results happen all the time.

not so long ago scotland and northern ireland took an england scalp, the republic held england to a draw, its not as cut n dried as you would imagine.

would rather this than a meaningless 'league' game against france or holland.

where is the passion for such games?

the same as this european super lleague they are talkign about.

all very well saying its great because you would be playing the likes of barca, madrid and milan week in week out, but if your getting beaten by them, plus you will lose you local derbies, the manchester derby, the north/south/east/west london ones, and so on, and these are the games that bring out the passion in supporters, not the huge games against the euro greats.

those are the games that bring out the prawn sandwich brigade.

It would be boring seeing the same four teams constantly. Oh and its about national squads so no barca Milan etc. The incentive is promotion to the next division. A shock upset will still be good as will gain or lose 3 points
