What would you do?

Stay in a job that you hate everything about, but it has security.

Or,

Take a new job that pays better, you know you would enjoy, but has no security.

I've got to the stage where I'm thinking life is just too short to spend so much time being somewhere I just don't want to be, job-wise.

No, I'm not 100% sure, but I know the job and what it entails and I know it'll earn more that I'm on now.

Another saying that often gets churned out is money isn't everything.

If it were me I couldn't carry on going into a job I hated it would grind me down too much. I left a job I hated when I was 31 and have never looked back.

I'm in an similar dilemma with working nightshift full time , pretty much consumes your personal life and health/well being but have now made the choice to get out as 4.5 years is enough , so looking for a 9-5 job , wknds off !!

It's best to find something your happy with or else you will have regret and develop a possible resentment to being there so get out and find something else is my advice !

That is one of the things that worries me - if I leave, I could never go back. I have to register and re-train once a year, and the re-training and re-registration would be impossible at my age.

Job security wins everytime for me now im older and wiser. I've had some very well paid jobs in the past,they never last though and that was the problem.

I don't sleep well though - actually hating the job and despising the fact that I have to go in the next day sometimes keeps me awake all night.

In that case your lack of sleep will ultimately affect your job performance and will lead to even more worry and stress. Perhaps a time out is in order ? Sometimes a break can work wonders

It is a difficult one and does depend on your circumstances ie kids, mortgage/rent but if your truley unhappy could things be any worse?

Worst case senario if it doesnt work out is that you will have to get another job or claim benefits..... if it didnt work out would anyone die???

I spent 20 years in the same job because initially i liked it then i felt it had security. There then came a point where i had a choice, family or work (over one particular holiday). When i chose family they called me a liar in a roundabout way and i quit. Walking home i felt giddy, d*unk almost. It was the weight of responsibilty being lifted, i've never looked back.

The grass isn't always greener, this is true but security in your job is a thing of the past. Loyalty doesn't exist in the workplace any more.

IF you're going to have regrets make them regrets over something you did, not over something you didn't do.

I was a responder so know how shit the job can be and the changes that have been made, the pay is shit for what you have to put up with, ive got another job now very similar but more money and less responsibility and feels great!

Hopefully no-one will die in the new job, but I know i'll be good at it. I also know that no-one will stab me, or shoot me and I won't be risking my life on a regular basis and that my wife won't get yet another knock on the door late at night from a policeman who tells her I've been injured and in casualty, and then blue lights her to the hospital to see me covered in blood.

I used to work awful shifts, days and nights, Xmas day 4 times in the last 8 years bank holidays etc. money was great but got to the point where my kids were asking me to do things or go places and I was always working!

I quit this spring and now work 4 days a week no nights or weekends!

I've got my life back

less money but I can pay the bills .

If you are unhappy at work it defiantly affects your home life .

I am staying with my job and employer not because I have to, it's because I want to.

The grass is not always greener and it is always a case of same sh1t different smell.

If I hate my job I would not hesitate to look for something else and get on with my life rather than to moan and rant about it.

Make the leap and change jobs. I turned down an opportunity a long time ago and still regret not taking it. I'm happy doing now but it took some tough decision to get here.

Being sruck doing something you hate is bad for your mental health too

Regardless of your decision to leave or not can I just thank you for your years of service, without paramedics like you I doubt a family member of mine would be alive today.
