Energy Prices

One of the major energy companies is raising its prices by (and average of) 8% on November 15th.

It seems the cost of energy is somewhat inflated due to government (green) levies which if cut would reduce the average bill by 12%. Would be better of removing the green taxes or are they required for the future? As a measure gas has risen by circa 40% in the last 10 years whereas electricity is up by 23% in the same period.

Prices rise because of pressure from share holders.

It was always going to happen as soon as privateers got their hands on the utility companies.

Ever hear of a mixed economy? Its the one where businesses that are vital to national security and stability are controlled by the nation.

Its what the rest of the world use (including the USA) but the Tories allow anyone take control of our national interests provided it lines their supporters pockets. And most of us swallow it!

it was after all the Tories that sold off all Britain's companies in the first place and now they say it is the economy's fault there is no money in the country may be just may be that's because we have no companies left to back the economy up xxxxxxxxxxx

Why is it OK for the Tories to intervene on commuter rail fares (which only affect a comparatively few people), yet wrong for Miliband to suggest we intervene on energy prices (which affect everyone)?

Is it because commuter fares mostly affect Tory voting South East England while the further flung parts of the country are less likely to vote Tory but likely to be colder?

Onny, are you suggesting that the Tories are stripping wealth from the poorest and most needy to give it to their supporters?

Supply and demand same with oil prices its zero to do with shareholders if you are going to blame anyone blame china for the demand for fuel.
