does anyone know what day their bin gets emptied, or do you just copy your neighbour?

Our local council regularly sends out a calendar. Mine is on my fridge door. This week it is black, blue and green bins. Next week it is green and brown.

Don't have any neighbours so I have to remember its a Friday but I always forget which colour bin to put out. X

It varies from area to area.

Where I am now has grey/black bins for regular rubbish and green bins for recycling. We also have a green tub for glass collection. Food is not collected here but compost bins are available from the council at a discount.

Norwich has green bins for regular waste and grey bins for recycling. That really confuses me!

Oh, also, here black bins are emptied weekly and green fortnightly.

In Norwich both bins are emptied fortnightly, one one week and one the next.

Thankyou. Wish we had bins for our recycling, we need to keep them all in the black bin and carry the bags out, recycling every week, and every fortnight you can add your black bags.

Previous occupant of my house was on the assistance list so even if I forget or decide it's not got enough in to worry about the binmen take it anyway.

Has been handy this year while I've been below par.

I really ought to go out and get my bins in. Collection day was yesterday but I couldn't be arsed to wrestle them back into place last night, (it involves having to lift them both up onto a step about a foot high). Hauling smelly great wheelie bins around rates quite low on my fun things to do scale.

That's a lot of bins, do you keep seperate bins for them in your houses or go out to the big bins every time?

We have 3 bins. Green for household rubbish. Brown bin for garden waste and a blue recycling bin. Our council provide a bin hanger at the beginning of the year stating what bins what week. Pleased hubby puts ours out. Lol.

Mine are collected on a Friday and I always remember.

We have a small kitchen food bin in the house and when the bags are full these go in the bigger food bin in the garden.

A big black box for tins and jars and glass bottles, a white bag for plastics and a green bag for paper.

'Residual' waste i.e. anything else goes in my allowance of 5 black bin liners per fortnight but usually only use 3. They did change to wheelibins a while ago but because my garden has the grand total of 2 steps we didn't get one.

The residual waste is taken fortnightly and all the recycling and food waste is taken weekly.

I think ours is a subscription service, paid up front - so paid for whether you use it every fortnight or not. I think it was £24 last year, which allowed one bag (of a set size) per fortnight. It has probably increased in price this year.
