"does anyone know what day their bin gets emptied, or do you just copy your neighbour?" Our local council regularly sends out a calendar. Mine is on my fridge door. This week it is black, blue and green bins. Next week it is green and brown.

"What are the different coloured bins? We have a black bin and a green food bin but that's it." It varies from area to area. Where I am now has grey/black bins for regular rubbish and green bins for recycling. We also have a green tub for glass collection. Food is not collected here but compost bins are available from the council at a discount. Norwich has green bins for regular waste and grey bins for recycling. That really confuses me!

Wish we had bins for our recycling, we need to keep them all in the black bin and carry the bags out, recycling every week, and every fortnight you can add your black bags.

"We have to pay for garden waste collection. Then the council composts it and sells the compost! Gits." Same here. I have to go to the council buildings and buy garden waste sacks at around £2 per bag, and then the idea is the recycling people will collect them on the usual waste collection day.

I think ours is a subscription service, paid up front - so paid for whether you use it every fortnight or not. I think it was £24 last year, which allowed one bag (of a set size) per fortnight. It has probably increased in price this year.

"does anyone know what day their bin gets emptied, or do you just copy your neighbour?" Fortnightly Tuesdays you dare not risk missing it if you had to wait another 2 weeks.

"I usually find that I get woken up by them then run out in my dressing gown and ask them what colour bins they are emptying" I'll bet your bin men love that.
