Above all, relax. Find closing me eyes and breathing deep n steady.

iPods good too, some people worry about the noise a tattoo machine makes and then get tense.

Hmmm I've had the top of my back done and both wrists, the wrists hardly hurt at all in comparison to the top of my back, so think in what order you'd prefer to have them!

Good luck x

Might be worth getting neck done first so at least you know the other two won't hurt as much lol x

Unless your kids names are 20 odd letters each or you're having it in a huge font - it shouldn't be a long job.

Just relax - emla (the numbing cream) is an option but most decent artists won't recommend it.

It's personal as to how you deal with the sensation/pain. I can happily sit for hours under a needle - I just zone out and love it! Relax - and don't hesitate to ask them to stop if needed - it's preferable to you spasming and it going wrong!!

But it's short term pain - long term gain - so long as you're happy with the work.

Good luck and enjoy!!

A

The tattooist says hes hapoy for me to use it although he is not particularly a fan. Two of the names are 7 letters and one is 8

I have one on the nape of my neck, it wasn't that bad. But then I like the pain!

Ditto on the water, you get thirsty! The adrenaline rush is amazing! I wanted to go to the pub after, but had the school run to do instead

I have my wrist and top of my neck done. Neither hurt. Im assuming yours is going across rather than down?? Mine was going down (a bow) the further down my back he went the more it hurt...but the top was fine.

I have "nanny" on my wrist and took 5 minutes, was my least painfull tattoo.

My ribs were the worst (but not really bad)

My best advise is to eat before...and bring a bottle of water. Honestly, it will be over before you know it.

Good luck.

I'm having my 18th in a couple of weeks and still get slightly nervous at the noise. Take something with you to occupy your mind, iPod, or a friend. My hubby or sister have usually been with me for mine. Try to relax, easier than it sounds for your first I know, and enjoy. I find it calming and quite enjoyable once it gets going.

Have something to eat before hand. Take in a choc bar and sugary drink, it helps when your adrenaline drops off.

Above all, enjoy it. Having tatts is a great experience

Personally I'll be more concerned with whether I'm going to piss myself when I laugh, or remembering my name then what my tattoos will look like when I'm old.

In answer to the op, eat before you go, take a sugary drink with you, and music if you don't like the sound of the needle. I'm lucky in that my tattooist is a good friend and the parlour is a social meeting place for friends so we just chat shit whilst I'm getting inked.

It hurts like a bitch. I always get the urge to kick him in the nuts when he starts mine. You get used to it, unless it's big and takes a few hours. Then I want to rip his head off.

Hope it goes well, I'm a big wuss and it might not hurt you at all. The fear is the worst, just eat something sugary and smile. x

Why is their opinion shit? I don't understand the need to get uppity. Some people don't like tattoo's, and they have posted on this thread. I respect their opinion and their preference for people with no tattoo's.

Hes telling her what not to do....

Nothing to do with if he likes nor doslikes tattoos.. i couldnt give a toss about that!

Some like some dont. And i like i said i just hate it when someone says about the what about when your old etc...

If someone wants one or not its upto them. Noone should tell another not to its down to them.

And i can be "upperty" all i want... If and when.

I had a tattoo on my neck and found it relatively painless. I found a good technique was to talk with the artest during the tattoo and try to take your mind off what he is doing.

Good luck, tattoos are sexy

try some ibuprofen before you go in. and consider a small tattoo first to see how you feel about it. make sure the artist is good and understands exactly what you want. distraction is great if you're concerned about pain.

Make sure you eat before, and depending on how long the sitting is for take some sweets with you to keep your sugars up.

I sat For 5 hours for my lady and munched on haribo while it was done.

Don't think about the pain as its not much anyway. I zone into the sound of the gun and find it quite hypnotic. Nearly fell asleep lol

really depends on the person and their pain threshold and off course where the tatts are going.. my shoulders/back one killed me but my hand, leg and boob ones was fine, depends on your frame of mind on the day too... if you are going in thinking its going to hurt chances are it will!..

but like others have said, be calm, eat and have drinks whilst in there.

Obviously you are going to be nervous in relation to this but once they start, after a few minutes you will get used to it.

The pain is like sunburn, it does stop when they stop tattooing, they do a small section and then stop. It is nowhere near as painful as having children, it is absolutely nothing to be worried about.

It is an enjoyable experience because the overriding desire to have the tattoo will override the discomfort. Enjoy it, it will be fine and it is rather addictive after you've had your first tattoo

Is it too late to rename the kids by deed poll to Bill, Ben and Bob? .....only 9 letters in total then!!

You will be fine... if you've gone through childbirth 3 times your pain threshold is way up there. You go girl

Ah this reminds me of the ladies that went to get her Clit tattooed and the tattooist explained the procedure to the lady explaining he would numb it first.

On parting her legs the tattooist popped his head between her legs and went numb numb numb numb

Don't drink the night before as it increases blood pressure which means you bleed more.

Watch the artist as you can see when he is about to apply the needles

Most modern artists have better equipment than those 10 years ago and as a result the process hurts less. I hated having mine done 20 years ago, but got a half sleeve done last year and because of new equipment I found it hurt far far less

I really like the look of the tattoo selves you can get done. Just hesitant to get as for work purposes I am worried it will look unprofessional as impressions in sales is the first thing you make.
