Have you been diagnosed? I only ask because my mum thought she had IBS and just adjusted what she ate etc turned out she had ulcerative colitis, lost a massive amount of weight, got severely anaemic had to have transfusions etc and spent 2 months in a hospital!

The docs should be able to give you lots of info on IBS if that's what it is or recommend you for a colonoscopy xx

I agree with the above. Get checked out!!!!

At best its inconvenient, at worst and when left Colitis becomes debilitating. It could also be chrones disease, they are all related. When treated, often initially with tablets, it can be managed and live life to the full. Please go see your GP, I wouldn't want someone to have the pain I have had, and I'm not chronic with it.

I (Mr) had IBS for 2 years quite a while ago, went to the doctors numerous times with nothing really touching it other than Zoton, in the end turned out to be stress related, dumped the girlfriend at the time and it went away within 2 weeks!!

I've got IBS and have bouts of severe discomfort, bloating and acid reflux. Buscopan helps but not always. I have found that beef and tomato based sauces don't help.... So I avoid those when possible.... But sometimes I spoil myself with a huge amount of regret afterwards

My father had this he took buscopan but the main advice he was given was to look at his diet and alcohol intake.

If you can identify things within your diet that make it worse, you are one step ahead.

If you're used to having a lot of fruit, cutting down to 2-3 portions a day can help a little too, I've felt the difference.

Ask GP to check for allergies, I know a few people who thought they have IBS but were just intolerant to certain food stuff.

Erm, I love anal and I have IBS... you point is?!

(ok so when my IBS is playing up anal is off the cards, but if it's managed reasonably well with diet/medication etc... then it should't be a problem)

Well guys, I took your advice and visited my GP. After weeks of trying to get it sorted, there was no real improvement. What it did uncover is a family history or stomach and bowel cancer through the male side of the family. After initial investigation at the hospital, they found some irregularities, so tomorrow I am in for a colonoscopy and biopsy! They dont think I have cancer, but want to rule it out.

I am only writing this to highlight going to the quacks earlier rather than suffering and thinking you know what it is!

I just wanted to thank those for telling me to get my butt (ooo er Mrs) to the Docs.

ps. I will be putting up the HD version of the film on RedTube in the near future

It turns out that I dont have IBS, the scans showed polyps that have been removed and I also have diverticulitus. Symptoms are similar to IBS.

I would recommend anyone who thinks they have IBS, to get it checked out. It could be masking something more serious.

Definitely , I know from a close friend that Crohns can be mistaken for IBS and a flare up can cause lots of pain.

Not funny for sufferers I know, please forgive my toilet humour.

What worked for me, after much trial and error, was a self-managed programme of eliminating suspect foods from my diet. I eventually discovered that by avoiding cheese and artificial sweeteners, the IBS problems were greatly reduced.

Good luck, it's literally a pain in the arse!

I would ask to be referred again - it may not be colonic, could be pancreatic or something. If you're in pain keep thumping on desks 'til you get some action!

Stress can make it a billion times worse. Try something like yoga, Pilates or meditation. There are some good things on YouTube if you don't know where to start. (And that's for UC/Crohns as well as IBS!)

Also I highly recommend playing around with your diet. Have a google of the main foods that trigger IBS and use trial and error.

I am glad you are getting it sorted OP.
