Depends on your age I think. Young people are taught metric and when the older generations die out so will the imperial system. Still can't get my head round 20 degrees being hot though.70 seems a lot warmer.

They are the same effectively as the SI standard for liquid volume is the litre and millilitres and centilitres are simply fractions of this, one thousandth and onehundredth respectively

That's interesting actually. I'd have expressed it as around 910mm or 0.91m, i'd never have used cm at all. So, multiple ways of expression in the metric world.

Hardly ever, virtually always stated as lbs/stones. I dare say, even those who are "metrified" do it.

Mind you 10lb sounds more impressive than 4.2 kilos.

"What's your preference?

I can work easily in either inches or cm and it's often fairly random which I choose. For, say, dressmaking it would always be metric. I think of and quote people's heights in imperial. If I need to measure a room I could use either. I can convert between the two easily.

I can work in grams/ounces or stones/lbs/kg. I can roughly convert between the two in my head. I usually think of people's weight in imperial. I can use either for cooking.

For temperatures I am ok with centigrade or the Kelvin scale. I don't understand Fahrenheit at all.

In mid argument the pro imperial guy asked the other how tall he was and the metric bloke answered without thinking "five foot ten "

Length in inches (if talking to someone over 40 years old)

Weight in grammes, as you can't use Avagadros number when your dealing in ounces.

I prefer imperial, it means more to me. If someone were to say they weighed 70kg, then I'd have to think about just how much they weigh. But if they said 12 stone 4, then it is more obvious to me.

Last week a waitress asked me what I'd like to drink. Answer, a pint of . Her response, is that large or small?

That's true. You're more likely to try to do a metric sum in your head and get the decimal point in the wrong place whereas in Imperial you're likely to use a machine to multiply by 16, 14 and so on.

Croupiers will continue to multiply by 17 in their heads.
