Right, this is not a moan or anything, it's intended to be a philosophical discussion (sort of...)

Some people believe that there are some arse kissers in here (not a jibe at anyone specific mind!). So, it made me think, how do you distinguish a nice person from an arse kisser? Like for example I like being nice to people and I want them to be nice to me...there have been times when I would have loved to give a piece of my mind but then I thought, it will only backfire so what's the point? So, am I just a nice person, in the genuine sense or am I an annoying do-gooder? Do you appreciate a nice person or do you like people who "say it like it is" (even if they are just being needlessly nasty?) Having said that, it's all in the eye of the beholder as well...

I love people that try to like each other, not people that just try to get along or outright refuse to.

I'm not a bad person, not necessarily a good one either. But I'm motivated to the latter, only sparingly. I'm tired of people, as much as I try.

There are times when it really is pointless giving someone a piece of your mind so its more about mature behaviour than genuine or do gooder. Yes it is really nice to give someone who deserves it a piece of your mind but knowing whether it is right or wrong is the far more sensible approach. And saying it how it is, is only okay if its constructive

Everyone gets a fair shake of the stick with me (where i'm nice to them) until you prove yourself to be an idiot. And then i treat you as such. I can't tolerate certain behaviour and make that clear, on the internet and in real life.

I have no tolerance for a lot of the above and I don't care if it means those people don't think im nice if I respond to them in a way they don't like,too many people want to be molly coddled,arselicked and made to feel as though they're wonderful and loved,if you need an forum on a sex site to provide you with that then you need to take a good look at yourself,pandering to the needy makes me lose my sense of humour sometimes

I had a situation at work last week. 2 women I work with, one had a issue with the other one and she was telling me and I didn't want to get involved as I hadn't heard what was said, so I made the appropriate comments and said she should speak to our boss. Anyway next day I'm called in office and asked for my input. I said what I'd been told etc, left office feeling upset as I'm a nice person and don't want to take sides. Hate atmosphere

Lots of things in here are "open to interpretation" and "choice" but there's still a difference between trying to be as nice as you want other people to be towards you without being a puppy and being daftly annoyed at nice attitude or just plain bitchy

I always find this term amusing. Firstly because I earn much of my living from my keyboard and so I'd only see it as a term of complement..

But secondly because it implies people would never say what they type in person. Perhaps they wouldn't, but I'd love to know how many of the accusers would actually be able to handle it if those things were said to their face.

My experience is not many handle 'saying it to my face' very well. I'll take a keyboard warrior over a keyboard whiner anytime.
