"So? Lesbians might not want dick, but they'll still keep fake ones. Besides, sausages are the original processed meat, so much sausage is hardly meat at all" You might find most vegetarians say something different.

"I think it depends on why you are a vegetarian in the 1st place. For some it's about a healthier lifestyle choice for others it's about animal rights.... I like sausage, mash & gravy as much as the next person I just don't want mine to contain minced up balls, brains & gawd knows what else, oh yeah horse " You only really have to worry when there's a vein running straight down the middle and one end appears slightly fatter than the other!

"The logical choice for non meat eaters would be to avoid anything anywhere near a meet product in appearance wouldn't it?" I have the same issue when I see something vegetarian that says "In the style of chicken...". Quorn being a prime example. If you choose to be vegetarian then be vegetarian. Why eat/buy something that is styled as a meat product? Think of another description for the product! End of rant......

But then I think it's cruel to cook veg as you don't even kill them first, just pull them up and cook em raw poor buggers nothing human about that " I agree, but fried in a little sesame oil, covered in hot ketchup between a couple of slices of Hovis...blinding!

There's an every increasing range of Quarn styled like this, that and the other meat. No doubt money has been spent on marketing here. And wtf! Why can't people just be allowed to choose. What about all the shitty processed meat packaged to be kid friendy. Turkey dinosaur shapes in breadcrumbs, etc. designed to get children hooked on meat from a very early age. Rant far from over

"Did anybody know that vegetarianism is bad for your heart? You need a certain amount of fat on your heart for it to burn up (hardest working muscle in your body, muscles need fuel). More dangerous for hardworking people or those that do strenuous workouts because without the hard fat that meat provides so plentifully, your heart will weaken by eating away at itself and wasting away. What do you think killed Michael Clarke Duncan only a year or two after the literal man-mountain became a vegetarian just to please his wife?" I'd love to see a link to the research proving this. ..

Granted the quality of some leaves a lot to be desired but there is no great conspiracy to "... get children hooked on meat..." As you say, let people choose. All I'm saying is if you choose to stay away from a particular food why keep eating something else that is supposed to taste like it or is 'styled' like it. Just have the real thing ffs. You know it tastes better than the substitute

And again why can't I be free to choose? I'm not getting on anyone's case for eating dead burnt flesh. And, as I've said, the way these products are presented is down to the marketing people at Quarn, Linda McCartney etc. Yes I've know vegans in the past who've ridiculed such products in the past too. Just the way things are atm.

"The logical choice for non meat eaters would be to avoid anything anywhere near a meet product in appearance wouldn't it?" The reason behind making them look like all the "meat" based products is so "veggie food" looks everyone elses.... especially if you have kids who are veggie....one has a sausage...they all have sausage

I wouldnt touch a ~"real sausage" to save my life but i like a nice "glamorgan sausage" I would much rather eat one with cheese and leeks in it than ears ,lips and arseoles I like chilli but only use veggie mince.....same applys to whats in mince ..unless you have a butcher mince some steak.......

"What part of an animal is a sausage ? or is it just a convient shape to package food ? " sausage is normally prefixed with, pork, beef, vegetarian etc as is burger so no problem as long as the adjective is accurate. What about decaf coffee etc.

" I'm honestly struggling to see why you don't understand it, I love the taste of meat, I don't want to eat dead animals, quorn is then the perfect option, tastes like meat, no dead animals in my belly. Now that makes perfect sense to me!

"I agree. I have tasted the alternatives and to no surprise they taste completely different and not like proper meat at all. Creating all these alternatives just annoys people who eat meats. Maybe the vegetarians too as the alternatives won't be full of the meet alternatives and companies can put new products there that both vegetarians and meet eaters eat as to me and other people I know Quorn doesn't taste like meet at all. " Quorn takes on flavours well and i quite like it Ive also served up veggie burgers etc , to meat eaters and none have none the difference .... till i tell them after

Apart from the deception involved I really couldn't understand the fuss about eating horse meat. A taste* of real starvation would put a few peoples' minds right. Oh, for my fellow meat lovers I highly recommend kangaroo but stay away from crocodile. *Puns intended

" Sorry Peaches but still makes no sense to me. Don't want/like meat but still want something that looks/tastes like meat. " Lots of vegetarian sausages don't taste like meat sausages. Cheese and onion ones are particularly good, for example. They don't have meat substitutes in them either. They're just vegetable. And really, there's only so many ways you can shape processed food efficiently in a factory or at home. You can roll stuff into a cylinder, you can roll it into a ball, or you can roll it into a ball and squash it. When I eat a vegetarian 'sausage' it's not because I like meat, it's because I like red onion, rosemary and potato (for example) rolled into a patty and cooked. It just so happens that it is the same shape as a traditional meat sausage, but there's really nothing more to it than that.

"Ok ok, I get the veggie sausage. But! If you don't eat meat from a moral standpoint why would you then want to eat something that replicates the taste of the thing you admit to liking the taste of but won't eat because you don't like the thought of your food being killed. It all seems a tad hypocritical to me. " Tis really. thats why i now stick to soup and toast

"The logical choice for non meat eaters would be to avoid anything anywhere near a meet product in appearance wouldn't it?" Sorry I thought the point of being a vegetarian was because you don't like the idea of killing animals for food not because you don't like the shape of a sausage what does it matter what you food looks like so long as it don't contain animal products?

" For many being a vegetarian has little to do with not liking the idea of killing animals but more to do with disliking the taste of meat or the image of raw bloody meat its interesting though you see it only from that aspect though. I always think its strange non meat eaters try and emulate a meat product but I often think its strange when grown adults try and dress like schoolgirls.

"What part of an animal is a sausage ? or is it just a convient shape to package food ? " It's a convenient shape to package all the left over bits of animal that you really wouldn't want to eat. AFAIK the skin of most sausages is now artificial, but in the old days, it was the intestine.
