I think I'm fairly popular in my little community, lots of folk speak highly of me (actually they mostly say I'm a loony, but they smile when they say it (or show their teeth at least))...on here I've met a good few forumites and think we got on pretty well...I've always been a joker and if I'm making folk laugh then I'm happy, I'd rather be liked, IRL is more important than virtual world

I'd rather be true to myself and liked by fewer people than pamder to the masses. Some on here crave ppopularity and acceptance to an extent that their posts are cringe inducong.

I am just me and get on easy with people and I don't care about being popular ...... just care about being true to who I am as a person. I will not be a sheep and run around people to fit in there groups ... not my thing .

I used to seek approval but then I learned about the polar sides of the ego: insecurity/vulnerability and arrogance.

I provide myself with all that I need to quash the insecure ego, and I am too realistic to be arrogant.

So popularity is one of those things in life which might be nice but certainly not necessary for me to evolve as a person.

I always think that popularity comes with a risk of becoming arrogant and vain - I dont mean everyone does, there is just a risk.

As others have said, I would much rather be respected and treated i a way that I treat others, than just be popular.

see I think the need to be popular is the polar opposite. Crippling insecurity. Why do I need my colleagues to like me if I am arrogant? I envy the arrogant ones.. they don't seem bothered at all what others think.

Being popular and the need to be popular are two separate issues, but I agree, the need could be based on insecurity.

I'm not popular nor want to be but I do like to me liked for who I am and I have a few friends(not on here) that are there fully for me as i am for them I find this more important than being popular xx

This discussion reminds me a bit of all the weird kids at college who were 'outsiders' trying to be 'different'.. but they all looked the same.

Most on here are too cool to be popular (or care) - but probably popular for being unpopular!

So I'll go with the unpopular _iew instead. Yes I'm popular, with those I work and play with.

I tend to keep myself to myself, as a single woman I suppose im popular on here but not for being me but for being a single woman who meets men, in my community I hardly know anyone as I moved here a few years ago with work so I havnt grown up round here and have no friends here, at work I get on with everyone not sure if im popular but I work well with people and get on with everyone

If your number one goal is to make sure that everyone likes and approves of you, then you risk sacrificing your uniqueness, and, therefore, your excellence.

I can't remember who said that but I think it's quite apt for this thread.

I work alone so there is no need to feel popular at work and my friends are the same ones as I had at school so we are well used to each other by now so there is no need to pretend in front of them to try and be more popular.

I am quite popular but id rather not be. Everyone knows me in my community and i get along well with friends, colleagues and family members. Only issue is some people get jealous and try to put yiu down and spread rumours about you.

...being popular doesnt necessarily mean everyone will be there for you when you need them. Its like you'll be there for then whenever they need anything but when your at a time of need you have no one.

I would rather have true, sincere, loyal people around me rather than be popular and have everyone.

...i should stop being nice to everyone. I think thats the ptoblem lol

now I am much older and wiser.... I couldn't give a stuff!!!!

some people will like you, some wont... I concentrate on those who I do and get along with.... not worth "sweating the small stuff" over those who don't...

if someone doesn't agree with something I type, all water off a ducks back....

if I am respected... cool....

I love my work colleagues, they are a great bunch. I work in a large organisation. I get on with most people I come into contact with at work, not all but most. I have a close and respected relationship with those I work closely with.

On this site I am not part of the popular crowd. I have met people at socials and have enjoyed chatting. I don't get involved in fawning over the group of popular guys on the forum, though I have a lot of respect for them and I enjoy their posts.

I don't get involved in challenges or putting myself forward for body part contests, that kind of thing, so I'd say I'm not popular as such. I do also put my opinion across and it's not always in agreement with all, so that may set me apart and of course there are people that just don't like me.

I'm not going to change so there you have it
