one of the prongs from the plus was left in my extension lead as i removed the plug. Oooops

a what? if u mean electric shock then no, each plug socket has its own isolation power switch which i turn off before removing the plug

Personally I would switch the power off at the consumer unit and pull the fuse for that power circuit.

Just remember, its not the voltage that can kill you, its the Amperage.

Brain death occurs at 100milliamps

Thats 0.1 of an amp, your average plug socket is 30 amp.

If you're only touching one prong then there's no circuit so it should be safe to remove with the switch turned off. Use a pair of pliars with rubber/plastic grips though, just to be safe.
