It would be the biggest flop imaginable. The maiden voyage would be cancelled due to lack of passengers. And they would end up having to change the name of the vessel to something more sensible. How about 'The Fabulous'.

That's my thoughts on the subject.

why do you think there will be a lack of passengers? With all the latest technology, naval architecture and engineering, the maritime law changing since 1912 regarding lifeboats, do you not think it will be safer?

I'm sure it will be very much safer. But I'm also sure that the name Titanic means disaster to many people, and that alone will put people off sailing on her.

The reason for the Titanic disaster is the same as the reason for the Costa Concordia toppling over and probaly quite a few disasters.- The captain was showing off.

A new ship called 'Titanic' would probably be sailed by the safest, most experienced crew available. If tickets were reasonably priced and the itinerary was of interest and if I get to have a go with Kate Winslet, count me in.

I dont think 21st century cruise liner passengers with high expectations will think much of it compared with other all mod cons liners. the external look is about the only thing that will vaguely resrmble the Titanic (if one ignores the modern lifeboats, antennae array etc).

it will need to sacrifice numbers for space and go for the highly demanding elite passengers.

In all fairness the designers of titanic got it very right. It was the owners who decided to reduce the number of lifeboats to reinforce the notion of her being unsinkable. And the fact that they cut costs on steel by using a poor quality that went brittle in low temps. Also captain smith was dangerous. But I would sail on titanic 2. If I could affor it.

Tell that to the people on the Costa Concordia. If the ship hadn't been beached than there would have been a much greater loss of life. Which flag will she be sailing under? As this makes a huge difference to the safety equipment and crew onboard, it's not called a flag of convenience for nothing...

And the original Titanic was deliberately sailed at maximum speed through ice infested waters. The end result is that in 2012 one of the biggest cruise ships in the world sank safety rules and regs be damned. And if it hadn't been so close to the island or had lost power slightly quicker it would have sank in deep water with a much greater loss of life than there was. Ships will always sink as long as the float on water. Because people who sail them will always take risks that they shouldn't. So no matter what the safety laws are now, mistakes can and will happen. No matter how many lifeboats there are unless their is a competent crew to supervise the rapid loading of passengers onto the lifeboats... I've spent many years in the merchant navy and sailed with quite a few ex cruise ship engineers. The money that gets spent on cruise ships is mainly for the benefit of the passengers, who do not see the engineering spaces and lower decks so do not know the sometimes poor condition of the ships they are sailing on.
