Is it really...or is the church just an institution preying on the fears and insecurities of the masses in order to manipulate and an exercise in social engineering?

religion can be seen as a form of social control.

luckily only ever in it for hatches matches and despatches as i dont really have any beliefs unless im in worry mode then would happily pray to god ,buddah, allah or whoever else may be listening! x

I'm not a religious man by any definition of the word but I do feel that religion as a form of control does have it's uses.

Can you imagine what would happen if it was ever proved that Jesus was just a normal man preaching peace to fellow men. That he wasn't the son of God, that he didn't perform miracles as we understand them?

An entire layer of belief would be removed in an instant and millions of people wouldn't know what to believe in any longer. Chaos & Anarchy would swiftly ensue, destroying the very fabric of society.

If evidence is ever found that proves Jesus was just a man like any other then I hope the Vatican suppresses it in it's deepest vaults, or, better still, destroys it completely.

religion is all bout control - monotheist religion, anyway. the pagans of egypt, rome and greece were more relaxed about things. look how christianity, mohammedanism and judaism all tell you sex for pleasure is bad - very, very bad. most of their priesthoods are old men with hang-ups about sex - for various psychological reasons they can't enjoy it themselves, so they enjoy denying pleasure to everyone else.

christianity has to be the biggest money-making scam in the history of the world. look at the wealth of the papacy, the c of e. the mullahs - hypocrites all!
