Tried explaining the rules of US football once to non-believers..Might as well have spent my time doing something useful.

Just watched a great game 'tween Saints and Sale. Even though Sale lost it was still some great rugby which is why i watch the game. If i wanted to watch something that isn't rugby id possibly consider league but by and large its dull.

"Long live Rugby Union only game left that is played by gentlemen "

Is this the same game that the manager sends on a player with a blood capsule in his mouth.

I will stick to league.

Haha had to be done. That incident did more to harm RU than anything else I can recall..

But one incident cannot do catastrophic harm to the greatest rugby code...

There is only one code of rugby. League is a fine game but its not rugby, it stopped being rugby when they dropped the flankers and disallowed competing for the ball.

League all the way for me - Was Union as a kid before seeing the light - And also seeing the ball, losing it for a minute in a ruck doesn't do much for me.

It's toomuch like touch rugby for me. Then you have to give the Ball to the other team after so many tackles just to make it 'fair'

Anyone notice how many "tries" are allowed in Union where there were clearly forward passes ( by upto 5 yards) in the build up? They never seem to show replays of such. Hmmmmmm.

Better than a fame where everyone gets a fair shot of the ball even though one team is clearly better. Is it because the other team will cry because they don't Get to touch the ball otherwise??

'come on now Johnny, it's only fair, you've had the ball for 6 tackles, give it to Timmy now so he can have a go. Yes I know your team haven't done anything wrong but everyone needs a chance to score a try'

Imo

However in Union the ball is just booted to touch so the other team gets it from a line-out

But that's tactical, clearing the lines and all that. There is still competition for the ball. Rucks and mauls and what not. Play isn't halted after a tackle unless there is an infringement. It allows For phases of play by the team in possession until they lose it by penalty or by tactical kicking.

It's obviously all opinions but I prefer to see a team try to score in those 6 tackles than just trundle it forward an inch every tackle praying for a penalty to kick at goal.

What i find shocking about league as opposed to rugby is the appalling defences. Last nights wigan/leeds game showed players not even attempting to make covering tackles. Defences are much stronger in rugby.

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

But defenses also have more of a rest in union - collapsed scum, lineouts etc..... what I really like about league is that there's far more running rugby - in the northern hemisphere at least.

Not necessarily, as rugby continues to attack til a turn over the defenders face a massive drain on their energy - especially when camped in your own 22.

League is too artificial for me with its six tackles and your out routine. I like to see multiple phases.

I like running rugby - you don't ho hum.

I wouldn't mind putting a stopwatch on actual ball in hand - id say you'd get at least ten minutes more for your Buck..... but then again, who could be arsed lÖL have a good weekend!

But as a winger playing English style rugby, you must get pretty cold - the ball is usually kicked long before reaching the end of the chain. You should've been born downunda lol

Exactly the opposite my antipodean friend, tactics can change a game, as can switching positions throughout a game. You learn a lot about the opposition in the first 15 mins then employ style tactics

*veers violently off course.....

Pretty much the same as cricket then with 5 day Test matches, 1 day 50 overs and 20/20.

Basically the same game but with different rules and mostly different players

Someone should use a stopwatch on both codes for 80min & see which code has ball in hand the longest - I know where my money lies - but don't pick me 2b time keeper - lol
