i`m suposed to be in night shift as well. the amplifier for the dist packed in

oh for the old days of a set of points you could fix

New uns are a bugger when broken! So is it walking or stopping at home

yep new ones great when everything works at push of a couple of buttons but bassas when those buttons don't work. not to mention bloody expensive to fix

Buy yaself an old VW Beetle - it'll never let ya down, and even if it did, you can drop the engine in half an hour and pop the spare one in that you kep in the garage

Yes those days are gone..

My Dad would always be under the bonnet of our old car years ago, so were many other Dads in our street esp on a Sunday, changing brake shoes and pads, fan belts or the car would be on the ramps gettin a new exhaust fitted..

Garages must be racking it in now

Aye, I've spent many a day with my Dad and a VW engine split in half, rebuilding it in the garage.

All you needed was a half a dozen spanners, none of your 'special tools' and fancy gadgets. A few spanners, a set of feeler gauges and a puller to draw the timing gear off the crankshaft.

I always remember putting the new crankshaft into the freezer for 4 or 5 hours to contract it and immersing the timing gear into boiling water to expand it in order to get them both to fit together

It was all so simple - and good fun into the bargain

glad its ok - mine broke down last tuesday and it's still in the garage cos they don't know whats the problem - I hate that car it's been nothing but trouble! Z
