If you could have anything done by saying it and clicking your fingers (some real 'I Dream of Jeannie' shit right here lol) to lower electricity consumption in this country, what would it be?

Be as considerate or as cruel as you like.

Personally, I could live with television the way it used to be. Off the air shortly after midnight and back on at dawn.

No corporate buildings being lit up like airports 7 nights a week when they're not even open...

What else?

Titz Towers, North Notts

A master switch that turns stuff off in the house when they aren't being used anymore. Ie, the telly is on in the lounge, but flicks off when the wireless is turned on in the study.

Mind you, I think there is a lot to be said for just turning daytime TV off full stop

Lol that's a good one actually, I wonder who'd miss Jeremy Kyle and all the antique auction shows.

I would give people only 3KW per day and a peddle bike attached to a generator if they wanted more. It would reduce usage massively and cut down on the number of people becoming obese and being a burden on the NHS. A Double wammy.

Nice to see that you care about the elderly and disabled then.

Glasgow

Stop floodlighting buildings, bridges and so on.

The Hydro in Glasgow is the latest culprit - lit from inside.

How about motion sensors fitted in every single commercial property.

Plus an outright ban on neon lights for them as well.

Save an absolute fortune overnight.

A "power meter" in every house, so people can see what they are using, and what they waste energy on.... would probably be even more useful if you showed the cost as well as energy used!

road lighting to be turned off from midnight till 6am.

not in pedestrian areas.

This happens in and around Runcorn, works well.

That's not a bad idea either. Only thing is in larger cities, there tends to be less crime where there's more light. Not entirely true as most muggers dont like scary places, but generally true.

Lol. Maybe we do need to do something about our power usage. But do you think firing up your computer and coming online is making the right statement?

Wigan

Motion sensors in rooms for lighting so they can't be left on. No lighting on buildings. Solar panels on buildings. Small windmill generators for each house. Ground source water heaters. Better insulation in buildings.

Oh I know I'm guilty on that part. Plus I do a lot of work online, but that's actual work, not advertising the front of my house. You get me?

London & Edinburgh

Use LED bulbs, the way forward

Unplug/turn off chargers when not using them

stop using tumble dryers, i don't have one and can still dry my clothes

put a jumper on instead of your heating unless really cold
