I've got to go to the passport office in Liverpool tomorrow and will have to wait for a few hours whilst my application is processed

Having never been I thought I'd explore the city - any recommendations on places to see in the city centre

It depends on what you are into...there are museums/ art galleries/ Albert Dock/shopping/pubs/eating places all within walking distance of the passport office

anywhere you go in Liverpool there will be things to see, as some have said there is the Albert dock area, there is also the cavern club to look at. It wont be open but the area around it is nice, also try and have a quick drink in Flanagans apple just down from Cavern walk. There is also the new museum on the pier head, it covers Liverpool in all the ages even a bit about the overhead railway.

at the Pier Head, there is the Maritime Museum, a great place to spend an hour,

or if you have 2 hours take a trip on the ferry across the Mersey,

Head down to the Albert Dock/Pier head (it's about 10 minute walk from passport office) there are several museums (maritime, Beatles and Liverpool life), there is the Tate Gallery as well as some nice coffee bars/wine bars and gift shops.

And of course you can't beat a ferry cross the Mersey

You can do a Beatles tour of the city and suburbs in a taxi not sure of the price or what taxi company the tour is organised but you could search for it on the net.

There are also 2 sightseeing companies that allow you to get on or off around the city, and the use is unlimited

You can take a beetles tour, from albert dock it costs about £10, if you have any interest in the beetles, you are dropped off at cavern club, for a drink, it takes about 3 hours, and you need to book on line.

Just to say what a lovely city - spent time round Albert Docks area & city centre

Beautiful victorian architecture and thankfully new buildings blend in well so as not to spoil

Pity I only had a few hours - will be worth a weekend stay over
