I'm fortunate enough to have a fuel card so can fill up where I want (except motorway services). I cover about 50,000 miles per year. Personally I have found it impossible to show a benefit of buying branded fuel over supermarkets. The trouble is you can never make two journeys the same across two full tanks of fuel. I think this is all a myth and theses companies are trying to justify higher costs.

"Don't!!!!!! There is going to be a mini price war starting from tomorrow... Sainburys have announced they are taking up to 6p a litre of petrol and 4p a litre of diesel... So no petrol station owned by them will sell at no more expensive than 130 Asda have countered by saying they will be no more expensive than 128.7 Hope this helps"

It had been shown on tv and in quite a few car magazines that what he is saying is right.

"I did a big shop yesterday and put £40 quid's worth of petrol in straight after. When I got home I found a 6p a litre voucher off with my shopping receipt. Doh! Luckily it lasts for 2 weeks but knowing my luck, it will become invalid due to the price war " Read it and if it doesn't say anything in conjunction with other offers they will honour it.

There has been test and it has been proved that using supermarket fuel makes your car run with less power and get less mpg than some of the big brands. It had been shown on tv and in quite a few car magazines that what he is saying is right. " This is correct. Supermarket fuel generally comes from either the start or end of the refining process and is generally of a slightly lower quality and octane rating. It also has more impurities in it. The upshot is that it can cause damage to your fuel filters (if your car has one), fuel injectors and also exhaust valves and catalytic converters. I never use supermarket fuels, over time its false economy as the damage it CAN cause to your engine can be catastrophic...
