It depends on the man some suit one and others don't. Scruffy ones are a no no though.

since when, while having a snog, would you rub your chin/cheek against the face of the opposed person?

last time i checked, mine, and my partners, lips, were on the front of our faces, somewhat slightly out of the way of any facial hair i may have had at the time lol

I get mine trimmed at a barbers regularly, and styled/reshaped at least once ever couple of months.

If you take care of them they should be soft and not look scruffy at all.

Obviously the tramp look isn't good on anyone though!
