What is a couple?

Interesting debate on another thread about FB's/ FWB's/ 'real' couples.

There are some fb 'couples' on here that although they say they aren't an actual couple, their 'relationship' seems absolutely ideal and perfect to me. Best mates, respect each other, care and look out for each other.

Lots of couples don't live together. Many people don't get married anymore. Some married couples don't have sex and barely even speak to each other. So many different variations...

What is a couple?

That's pretty hard to answer if you think about all the variations of couples today the only real thing that I can find is a phrase that only a couple would use and it's "I'll check with the other half"

Its what you want it to be really. So many of the definitions we are used to are being challenged now families often have only one parent, people no longer feel the need to be married to have children, parents can be of the same sex. Even ten years ago lots of people would have found those things odd. I think couple means lots of different things now too.

For me it's when you don't make important decisions without discussing things with each other. When that person's feelings and thoughts are as important as your own in doing something. Enjoying each other's company in both good and bad times. Being my favourite hello and my hardest goodbye. Lot's of other things too but none of it has to do with living together, marriage etc.

tbf yes, the age old 'couple' is probably dead, especially if you are involved in a pass time such as this.

but, i couldnt honestly give a single definition as to what a couple is anymore, other than maybe 2 people that are committed to each other, over and above any feelings they may have for other people, children not withstanding.
