Ok after another night of no sleep ..as tom is tossing and turning beside me... we have decided its time for a new bed. As tom has a bad back we really need a good supportive mattress . But after my initial browse on t internet, I am confused. so my question is what is the best supportive mattress for a bad back ... but not memory foam as I sleep on my front and my my big boobs make sinking in curve my back ...

Best thing to do is go into somewhere like Dreams or another mattress shop and talk to them and try out a few mattresses by having a lie down.

Just don't ever buy a mattress online without trying it out first in a shop.

Wow the Weymouth looks amazing but at over 1000 pound just for mattress bit beyond our budget definitely think we need to go try them out to get the best for us ... but thanks everyone for the advice x

That's not so daft. People often sleep better when they sleep alone.

No but I am sure you can get a double bed with separate mattresses; that way you could have a nice soft mattress to encompass your boobs and he can have a firm one for his back but you still get to sleep together

I have suffered with my back for years....I bought a memory foam mattress but one with 3500 pocket springs too....So whilst the foam gives a little flexability the pocket springs give you the support....It wasn't cheap but can honestly say it was the best purchase I ever made....Oh...and the more pocket springs you have in the mattress the better the support.

Hope this is of some help.

Hi this was a great help I have looked at pocket springs and definitely seem the best option ... what is a good number of springs to make it good quality ? X

Essex.

We've got one the ones that is memory foam on top of springs. I suffer from a bad back but this mattress has improved it massively. Plus I have a firm shaped pillow. It's getting on for10 years old now but by far the best £1000 we ever spent...

Be careful of memory foam if you are like me and get really hot at night. Memory foam retains heat so if you get really hot in bed they aren't so great.

There are single mattresses of varying firmness that you can zip together thus creating a double. My next door neighbors had them and love them

snap. My bed was ridiculously expensive. A 16" deep pocket sprung memory foam, that cost £2500 in the sale 3 years ago. But I can safely say it was the best investment every. It's like sleeping on a cloud.

I agree with previous post about heat tho, it does get incredibly warm sometimes. X

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Spending money on a decent mattress is an investment. Work out the cost per night for the 10 years of its life plus the fact of a decent sleep and it's nothing. Well, it's about 25p a night. Yes, you have to invest but good pain free sleep is so important.

Or just ask Tom to stop tossing beside you and go to sleep?

(I'm so sorry... I tried to resist but just couldn't and I had nothing to add to the mattress advice.)

After looking into this and advice on here .... I think you are right a few more sleepless nights while we save a bit more x

Never skimp on your mattress. we spend on average a 1/3 of our lives in bed, some of it asleep.

rule of thumb, the more pockets, the better, also useful is the no roll together.

but must try it in the shop first, cos one might need the support and another not so much.

Overseas

We had the orchid pocket sprung mattress from dreams, think it's down to under £500 now. Was the best bed and comfiest sleep I've had. Now moved abroad and hoping they do the same or similar here

May I suggest that you buy a super king size mattress and do a little DIY to knock up a base with heavy pine (the money you save on the base will allow you buy an even better mattress). That's what I did and I have a bed that's nearly as wide as long and the base will never collapse no matter how I abuse it!
