I’ve nothing against the guy and in an ideal world perhaps he deserved more time ……

But looking at our up-coming fixture list it’s difficult to see where we could gain enough "if any" points to get us away from the bottom of the table…

So I think it’s the right decision at the right time, but I’m slightly perplexed the Chairman has not also seen fit to sack the people who recommended Di Canio's appointment in the first place….!.

It won't matter which manager is in charge for the upcoming fixtures...it won't affect the results.

With the way he publicly slated the plays on there performance I'm not surprised as you don't do that in public he should call the players together and tell them in private not in public....

I say bring back Roy Keane he'll get results for them and give the players the fire in the belly to perform

You could have seen this coming a mile off. You simply do not in public ever, the Golden rule of football, for all eternity: barrack one of your senior players, one of the most respected players in the PL. To then publically slate your whole team, including the 14 new ones you signed in the transfer window, had only one outcome. He had previous at Swindon, not enough experience, baggage from his playing days and "political views". Passion gets you so far, however what Sunderland need is a calm, organiser, because they have been shipping goals for fun. Selling your three best players hasn't helped. There will be no doubt a queue of out of work, compensation hungry "football men" wanting his job. Sadly, three teams will go down, three up, Di Canio will not be the first to be shown the door. Have little sympathy with him as he will receive a significant payoff for being a failure, paid for by the hard working folk of the North East. I genuinely fear for Sunderland, being toothless in front of goal will be their undoing.

Wadda farking carnt! That is the owner Ellis Short I mean. He's turning the club into a joke.

PDC was a huge gamble and I agree with Sox, Di Fanti the head of recruitment/scouting should be sacked for selecting him.

I fear we need a manager with Prem experience to steady the ship and keep us up. Tony Pulis springs to mind, a very dull appointment but he will do the job. Back to square one though *sigh*

Di Matteo or Poyet or almost as dodgy gambles as PDC was.

Basically it's shit either way, bollocks.

I think the results at the end of last season show his methods can work but her personality was always going to upset the players in the end.

don't think its that so much with dicanio

I think his man management skills are lacking big time and these days with multi millionaire footballers you cant treat them the way you should be able to

The manager is paid to get the best out of the players. They are not performing the manager is held reponsible.

Di Canio forbade his players to talk to the Sunderland ground staff and ancillary employees claiming that it 'distracted them'...must have been a great atmosphere at the Stadium of light

They knew his reputation before he signed on the dotted line, seems a bit futile to sack him so early on.

Tactically it might be argued that his management style was a critical factor in Sunderland avoiding relegation last season. However, strategically his style was always known to be unsustainable, hence his early sacking.

A suggestion on twitter was that if they want the same "quotable" interviews, that Godfrey Bloom is available after having the whip removed

yet another manager that has lost their job after being beaten by west brom.

one could almost feel a little bit guilty lol

Di canio has always been an abrasive character, and it doesnt always work with people that earn a lot of money and seem to have a feeling of entitlement, or being untouchable.

i actually backed him for his criticism, not so much of john o'shea, as lets face it, mistakes happen on the football field, but the korean lad that pulled out of the header to give them the lead in the same game, he is saying what the fans are thinking, but doing it every now and then is very different to doing it every week, and that wasnt good.

the same with the cattermole thing, lying in a pile of money in a casino, while a lot of the people that support the club struggle to make ends meet.

that could have been handled a lot better (personally, i would have given him a dose of reality and sent him, and the players, out into the community to meet and greet in projects, so they can get a feel for how hard it is for the people they represent in the shirt.

as for where they go next?

cant have keano back, he is just Di canio lite lol

has been rumours of mcarthy coming back, not sure.

di matteo could be a good appointment. he likes to get the ball down and play through teams, so win, lose or draw, they will be playing good football.

i fear, however, that it will take a long time for the language barriers at the club to break down and they start playing as a team.

gladly, being an albion fan, im glad they will be taking one of the relagation spots, as then it means we only have to be better than 2 other teams (palace are going down, imo too ,so thats only 1 left lol)

I thought they'd wait till near Christmas. Knew it was coming though.

Sunderland should have gone down last season. I don't think they'll gel. Too many new players: 14!

Relegation beckons!

Surely it will cost them? Didn't he bring in his own backroom staff as well as himself?

Lancashire

As a neutral ( mufc fan)

i think it was too soon to sack him

He bought new players and needed a chance to find his best team

Rome wasn't built in a day and it took fergie a while before he started to get respect and to build a team

One thing I did like to see was the way PDC went over to the fans on Saturday

At least he had some balls . He Could have easily skulked off

Fair play to him I say
