Strange mail.

I have heard of people getting spam/junk emails and most of them are their to scam others. Whereas some are just to advertise things.

I have heard of junk mail through the post to advertise all types of things and various catalogues. However how rare is it to receive a personal letter through the door that can scam you? Have you received one, what did it say and what did you do about it?

I used to work in local government where the department I was in dealt with scam mail. You would not believe what was sent to people and the number of people who were done out of thousands of pounds of money. The psychology of scams is very clever and pulls in the vulnerable. Not pleasant and people from all walks of life were sucked in. Nasty, nasty business run by despicable individuals.

So someone who knew my full name and address sent me a letter from abroad with a genuine stamp on there so i know what country it came from. Its 100% scam. I haven't got another persons mail by mistake?

Our information can be sold to any company by any company/local authority/DVLA etc. If you get a letter with your details etc and it says you have won a prize/money etc DO NOT RESPOND!!!!! As soon as you respond to one, enclosing money, you will receive 5 or more new ones, and for every one of those you respond to, then more and more will be sent out. It is a huge business and worth tens of thousands of pounds. Just Google "Scam mail" and look out for any information from Trading Standards Departments. There is also a website that was set up by the daughter of a woman who was scammed out of £50,000. Think Jessica I think it was.

I d Ring your local Trading standards,, they ll ogffer advice, might help them or the police if others have been targetted,

your name and address and many other personal details are quite easily found if you no where to look,
