Grill on the alley, just off deansgate and Alberts shed do amazing food and the resturant in the palace hotel does the best steak I've ever tasted.

Yes I agree Eden is really nice too, great atmosphere in there

Check Manchester Confidential website ... loads of up to date reviews on bars and eateries. I like the bars around the Northern Quarter but also worth a look at Revolucion de Cuba on Peter Street and there's a real nice cocktail bar across the road from Cuba on Watson Street ... can't remember the name

If you want a curry, Akbars on Liverpool Road, just off Deansgate (and opposite the Museum of Science) does the best in Manchester...and not that far from the bars around Castlefield.

I'd stay away from the chains that you cdn find just as easily in Liverpool for example someone mentioned the living rooms but I'm guessing that's the same as the one in dale street

If you like Chinese food there's an excellent place in Worsley that you can eat at and then head into Manchester city centre.

There's also Sweet Manderin which won the C4 Gordon Ramsey best restaurant in UK award a couple of years ago that might be well worth a visit.

Hope that helps

Yep agree with Akbars but if you just turn up expect a wait because it is very popular but well worth it.

Some really nice bars around that area too.
