Here and there

Great idea. The Aussies have had it for ages so you can go surfing with your money in your pocket and it won't get ruined.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Other countries have it. It feels strange but you get used to it. It makes the washing machine accidents less disastrous and the money is wipe clean.

Back home in OZ we have had Polymer banknotes since 1988 and they are great as they tend to keep their fresh look for ages but you still get all those nasty germs attached!!!

Does this mean it will be legal to launder money?

It might be quite expensive though. Will all of the ATMs have to be changed to manage the new notes? Plus all of the self-checkout machines, bank counting machines...

Where is the Fab expert? Come on, give us the answers.

"Remove the queens head and they will be even better!!!"

Why would an Aussie want to remove the queens head from either their or our bank notes? Without it it would not be legal tender!

I've heard if you stick them in a microwave they shrink, so you could make your own money badges reminds me of the days when you used to heat the old crisp packets up and make a tiny perfectly formed badge

The LINK ATM people seem to be saying they will work closely with the BoE to make the machines work. I suppose that's one of the reasons £5 will be the only one rolled out in 2016.

The wipe clean aspect seems to be contentious too as there is a report showing MRSA sticking to plastic notes better than paper.

They don't fold easily so I won't be able to stick a tenner in my bra for emergencies.

The final bit of reading I have managed says that the feel of the paper notes is one of the ways to test for forgeries.

When I went to Autralia I just thought they felt funny and I didn't try to fold them. I may have to return for a proper test.

Eh, you don't need the queen's head on a note to make it legal. Australia or UK

oops, should have said 'legal currency' as No banknotes in Scotland qualify to be called 'legal tender'.

Why does the queens head age on the UK coinage but stays the same on banknotes?
