So as the subject suggests I need some awesome hero/villain costume ideas for me and OH for a upcoming fancy dress party.

I wouldn't mind dressing up as a man but the OH is against dressing as a woman.

Anything you can throw my way will be greatly appreciated!

Find the Marvel and DC comic websites and look at the costumes you can practically achieve on your budget. Its possibly the best direction and set a budget or you will overspend.

Red Riding Hood sounds great. I just cant get the vision of the wolf dressed as Gramma out of my head, his wolfy snout sticking out of her cotton hat.

Great advice! Hadn't thought about a budget. I'm handy with a sewing machine so I am willing to make them. I made a Baby Doll from sucker punch costume last year

You could also go with a Wizard of Oz theme? For you Dorothy or the wicked witch of the west. Then for him, Scarecrow, Tin Man or Cowardly Lion.
