Just bought a new Acer Laptop and the webcam built into it is the best quality I've ever seen. It cost me £800 but I needed a new lappy anyway lol

Jed, the Logictech 9000is a great webcam, however as with everything it depends what you want to do with it, there are software programs that allow you to use an HD videocamera so if ultimate picture quality if what you're after it might be worth checking out that route. ( the better DV's will have a much greater data consumption than any regular webcam, so the processing power will be important on the PC's you plan on using it with )

If you want remote access/pan/tilt/zoom control then there are some webcams that have smoother and faster reacting remotes than others.

Also refresh rates etc can be important on moving subjects and less so on stationary ones.

Magazines like "Which PC" and "PC User" all do regular reviews and are readily available online. There are also user reviews which allow you to see what these products are like out in the real world with real users.

Just a note, the company you get your broadband off makes no difference to the quality of your BB, its the same line, you just pay your bill to someone else.

The best picture quality as far as I know will be generated from a DV camcorder and suitable software, this will produce better quality than your broadband connection can currently handle, but as broadband speeds increase you wont be left behind.

If you already have a DV camcorder this is also the most economic route too, if you dont then the cost/benefit of buying a DV camcorder and suitable software can only be your choice.

If you have a DV camcorder I'd recommend a mini "gorilla grip" as this can be a fairly secure way to mount the DV to a surface for ease of viewing angle.

Trouble with Logitech is that they don't make drivers for the next windows, wasted a lot of money in the past via Logitech

I'm currently using Microsoft livecam VX 3000 very happy with it.

Happy to chat cam if you want to see

Thats the webcam i have and at £15 it was voted one of the best webcams at the time. It was reduced from £45 so it was a great bargain. Also like yourself i had a Logitech prior to the VX3000 and it was absolutely crap and like you said i had problems with the software as i changed my PC from XP to Vista....Now back to XP as Vista is pish!

Everything is clear both sound and view and it does the job of whats required.
