My personal hates are the Toyota Picnic and the Dacia Duster - both equally stupid.

I remember in in the 80's & 90's the Vaxhaull Corsa was called a Nova. It turns out that they changed the name because "Nova" in Spanish means "No go!"

I also understand that the Toyota MR2 didn't sell particularly well in France. Something to do with how it's pronounced by the locals & it sounding like a similar word!

Now this maybe a bit of an urban myth...but allegedly when Mitsubishi wanted to introduce a 2 door sports coupe into Europe in the 80s, they asked their European dealers for a good name...

Apparently the reply came back as 'call it a stallion'

'Ahhh' said Mr Mitusbishi, 'Starion, good

name!'

Hence the sporty Mitsubishi Starion arrived!

My mate at college had one, (square steering wheel!), and we ripped the piss mercilessly when someone read an article saying that a university had put one in a wind tunnel, and it was more aerodynamic in reverse than going forward!

Yes the Japanese are famous for badly naming things .. Remember the Nissan sunny .. The bluebird , which depicts speed trials in the bonneville salt flats !

Then the Japanese went all numerical on naming their bikes like GPX. GPZ ZZR etc etc yet look back at all the wonderfull names the old British bikes had like thunderbolt , rocket 3 commando etc etc .. Sigh .. Those were the days

Apparently the Mitsubishi Starion was supposed to be called Stallion in the American market (pony car, Mustang etc) but the marketing people misheard it from the Japanese manufacturers as 'Starion'.

Ended up sticking.

Rolls Royce brought out a car some years ago called the Silver Wraith (sucessor to the Ghost ?). It didnt do too well in Germany as translated into the Silver Fart!

Among other dodgy translations was the Triumph Acclaim, it didn't do too well in Germany because it loosely translates to Sieg Heil. Probably about 50 years too late. Adolf would have loved it.

My dad had an allegro when me and my brother were kids, we could open the locks with a pair of scissors, lol.

Also while driving along one day i was on the back seat and the seat just became detached all by itself and dropped on the floor, lmao.
