I am on my 3rd 5 series and have my new one being delivered in two weeks. They just keep getting better. What model are you thinking of getting?

Not really a BMW fan, there's far better cars out there which will cost you less to run and be more comfortable to drive. That being said I would consider an M3 or M5 but not as an every day car...

Had a 320d in the past, drives great, clutch was a little heavier than other cars I've driven but you get used to that......shit in the snow though

Great car. The new models are finally coming better equipped as standard, this has been long overdue. Had BMW for the last 10 years and can't fault them.

My ex had a 3 series and a 5 series! I loved driving them both very comfortable and responsive! But have to agree with another previous comment shit in snow!

Assuming its been looked after properly including full service history it should be mechanically good

But as others have noted, they're not good in snow and the interiors can be basic. Also servicing and parts can be expensive

You may get more bang for your buck from other makes

Had 4 BMW's (amongst the 18 ive owned and safely say the 11plate 520d was the worst handling car ive ever owned.

Inside was super luxurious and that MPG was borderong on feintly ridiculous (i averaged 62mpg on a late night run from gatwick to croydon), but in terms of confidence in the car when i cornered - there was none, just far too much body roll.

The older car (one your looking at) is a much better drivers car.

What your kidding me, whilst the Merc is a great car to drive and in fairness probably less trouble than the BMW its never better to drive imoa

I have owned so many cars and worked in the trade and I know the current batch of BMW,s are poor interms of build quality (from about 2010 on) and are far to expensive for what you get, they are however one of the best cars to drive especially if they have a big block under the bonnet (petrol or Diesel) heres a couple of cars in that class to consider Lexus LS430 or Honda Legand both petrols as a dieisel a Hyundai I40, you'll get a 10/11 plate better spec and just £30 a year tax, its only a 1.7 ltr but goes well

This has been true of BMW for some time now. Shame, because i feel they hit their peak with the original 5 series and the X5 (beautiful to drive too).

It has been pretty stagnant since.

Which model. I love the 5 series but only driven top spec models which I guess will be a bit different to the less powerful.

However always found them lovely cars.. I always say to someone to try one... Hire one for a weekend even... As can really get the feel then.
