Just our opinion

You see this constantly on here

"Just our opinion"

"Everyone is entitled to their opinions"

"In my opinion"

Normally followed by something rude, insulting derogatory or negative.

Reminds me of a joke I heard about people from Brooklyn where they can say anything they like as long as they say "I mean that in a nice way"

For example

"I think you're the ugliest mother fucker in the whole world"..........."I mean that in a nice way"

Or

"No disrespect"

"Your mother is a whore and your sister is a slut"......."no disrespect"

I tend to find that people often use "just my opinion" when they can't justify their beliefs or ideas.

Some people state opinions as if they are fact. Ironically even facts are not always facts as time proves to us: take the subject of dinosaurs - more discoveries and better technology has determined that my children learn different facts to what I did at primary school.

With regards to opinions, sometimes they aren't always easily explained as they have evolved within us due to our life's experiences, such as my spirituality.

Is there an omnipotent being? . My belief system says yes and no other opinions are going to change my mind. However I am open-minded and my belief system may not be the same in another ten years (and I state this simply because it is ever-evolving).

No of course not. Just means you lack the courage of your convictions and/or "la la la la la I can't hear youuuu".

My opinion is () if you have an opinion and express it here or anywhere else then be prepared to defend it without resorting to la la la la la I can't hear youuuuu/how dare you question me! Otherwise I'll take the view it's someone elses opinion parroted, or utterly undefendable anyway. And I do so love arguing a point.

You are not entitled to your opinion. You are only entitled to what you can argue for.

The problem with “I’m entitled to my opinion” is that, all too often, it’s used to shelter beliefs that should have been abandoned.

Text doesnt show emotion, in my opinion doesn't mean a person is scared to stand by their convictions.

It means Ian not trying to change your way of viewing something but this is how I see it,

"In my opinion the grass is green" is none challenging and open to discussion

"the grass is green" is read as challenging and will only naturally be met with defensive response

Jeez its Friday people, with all sue respect - lighten up.

Most of the time I would agree, but some opinions aren't always easy to explain...for example attraction, taste in music, fashion sense. How do you justify having an opinion on something there is no logical argument to but is just a 'feeling'?

I dont think I need to dissect language so much..if someone says in my opinion fair enough..take it on the 'gut' value of what it is, it doesnt have to be shown as a negative..

I remember pointing out that i thought a painting was nice...a girl standing next to me said "whats that supposed to mean"(note thats not so much a question is it?)

my point?- we dont have to dissect everything thats said all the time..especially when we appear to look for a negative aspect to it

the irony of someone wishing to dissect meaning from a comment that was aimed based on a gut reaction..its a reason i cant stand some of the art worlds view on what is art.Obviously I seen her comment as a negative view on my comment that was positive.Like I said I dont have to read into everything thats said, but for the example I gave, its hardly ironic to be honest.cheers.
