"I don't like the look of this. As it stands, the prosperous areas, with ease of delivery, such as cities, subsidise the countryside, where it make take 10 minutes of driving to reach an isolated cottage. I can see the easy areas being cherry picked. " Your '10 minutes' is probably on the low side but your point is well made. Look at the home delivery companies which surcharge the Western and Northern Isles or even decline to deliver at all.

"all this tory bashing, im almost certain this was mentioned and put in process during the last labour government too, but as has been said, they ran out of time/were too busy giving our gold away, i mean selling the reserves" aye,but you have to forgive the labour voters on here as they have a very specific memory loss when it comes to bliar and clown.

"Since the internet and email, hand delivery was on the way out, we just don't need it anymore, its progress. Parcel delivery is the new mail service, as shopping on line takes over from the high street, " and its this parcel delivery that subsidises the snail mail. there are still people that rely on it, so to just happily write it all off as 'yesterdays news' is rather fickle and self serving. my parents have NO interest in emails and so on and everything comes through the letterbox. they would be in a right mess if the mail service was stopped.

"Personally I dont give two hoots who runs it, as long as the prices dont go up I see them at the moment as incompetent, as my daughter has just been fined by the dvlc for not sending her v5 off when she sold her car. Lost in post and also the subsequent letter that was posted when they contacted her when new owner requested the v5 I know they were posted as I posted them" Same here as long as its run well I don't care. As for all the comments about changes in deliveries it's an act of parliament that it cannot change.

"If UPS or TNT run it, its got to be better. They can get me a parcel from New York to my house in 24 hours, quicker than a post card from Scarborough to my next door neighbour" How much did both services cost

"This is the Tories doing what Tories do. Why do you think the cost of stamps went up so much recently? " I agree but thing is after this there is fuck all left to sell off so jobs buggered. Track record on privatising stuff is terrible. Railways extortionate price overcrowding and generally fragmented. Energy gas and lekky prices as we all know are out of control. For me only telecommunications as worked to bring prices down.

Only get bills anyway!" that wasnt labour. if you read some of the posts, it must have been the tories doing it by the back door lol

Within the UK, the distance the postcard travels doesn't affect the price. Scilly to Shetland is the same price as from one house to the house next door. That won't survive under privatisation.

" British Rail British Gas British Coal Electricity Boards and plenty more national assets from 20 years ago that have ended up in either foreign hands or hedge funds will we ever learn never. before im slated i work for one of the foreign companies (German) that now own one of the countries assets and it is something that is unheard of in Germany.

Its recent return to profitability is only because the government has waived the been to contribute to a £4bn pensions deficit

Pensions in this country are disaster waiting to happen for everyone not just nationalized industries and this because government in the recent past decided to let companies take pension holidays which has now come back to haunt them.

"This means that they will have money put aside to produce tax cuts just before the next election. As said above, tories doing what tories do." Just like Labour when they came into power in 97. After slagging off the Tories for their reduced spending budgets they maintained those very same cuts for approx 3 years before putting the money back into the system so folk felt flush just in time for the next election. Do you honestly think Labour are different? We're in the mess because of those lily livered t**** who refused to address the issue when it was clear what was happening because they always refuse to make the tough decisions. Truly a case of fiddling whilst Rome burnt. Fiddling in more ways than one. Cameron's a c*** but at least he's had the balls to make very unpopular and tough decisions, far more than Labour had, or will have-its just in their DNA to make unpopular but necessary decisions. However I do believe wholeheartedly that the Royal Mail should not be privatised, nor do I believe that the cuts needed to be so deep, so speedily, in the areas they were made. Perhaps cut the welfare/immigration bill more and take care of essential services better.....

" i have no alliance to any political party as i firmly believe that they are only in the job for what they can make out of it on the side (directorships consultants etc) they (MP's) hate real hard work and will always take the easy option " The (much maligned by some) Gordon Brown "earned more than £1.3 million through giving speeches and public engagements. He does not profit personally from the money at all, as it goes towards the running of his office and charitable donations." "Mr Brown personally does not receive a penny from speeches or writings," a spokesman said. "He has thus no 'second income' and does not benefit from 'outside earnings'. All the fees from speeches and writings are not paid to him and all the money goes directly to charity or to fund charitable work by himself and his wife. "Mr Brown's only income is his salary as an MP, because he has also renounced the pension conventionally paid to all former prime ministers." Since the source of this is the Telegraph (not his biggest fan), I think it's fairly credible.

" Whilst no fan of his I do respect a leader with the moral fibre to do what he thinks is right Now compare to Blair!!!!" despite what many think of him he certainly had that in spades.. he expanded upon Thatcher's idealogy of which he was a fan and pushed it further.. he took us into an illegal war to maintain the special relationship etc.. he certainly came across as single minded on many issue's.. so despite not a fan of many of his policies and actions I have to say he did have some of that moral fibre ..
