Germany is the most positively viewed nation in the world in this year's annual Country Ratings Poll for the BBC World Service.

More than 26,000 people were surveyed internationally for the poll.

They were asked to rate 16 countries and the European Union on whether their influence in the world was "mainly positive" or "mainly negative".

Germany came out top, with 59% rating it positively. Iran was once again the most negatively viewed

It would be interesting to compare the results of similar polls conducted canvassing public opinion in Germany and Iran

What I want to know is why the BBC is using money from my licence fee to pay for people to interview 26,000 people globally.

Ah so its my taxes that are paying for it! Hmmm even worse. Mind you that assuming the cost came out of the world service budget.

That's the implication of the OP.

Above all I prefer to think of myself as human rather than by any national identity…..

However in saying that, I wouldn’t want to swap my British nationality for any other...

most fundamental aspects

In another "study" published on yahoo; The Scandanavian countries have come out top of the "happiest" places to live. Followed closely by The Netherlands and Canada.

I think the key with both of these studies, is those who focus on what they CAN do not can't. Germany has a mindset of always looking forwards (perhaps understandably given history) and are determined to be better than just ok.

The UK has unfortunately become something of a "glass half empty" kind of place. As a result, coming in at #22 in the happiness survey. We often hear phrases like "x y or z is what made Britain great" which hardly inspires future ambition when we are always looking backwards to Empire.
