The first chicken egg was laid by its parent but it's parent was not a chicken. The egg that contained the first chicken was an evolved new species from it's parent. mmmmmmm except that evolution into a new species cannot happen in one generation ..... which begs the question - When was the dawn of Chickendom ? At what point did what ever it was become a chicken ? I'm gonna answer my own Q here......

Reasoning goes..... At some point - due to evolution ..... the chicken became - it then laid an egg ..... so the chicken came first.... DONT say where did the chicken come from .... Ive just said .. it hatched from a not quite a chicken egg.... I think...

I was just about to say similar but opposite to what Wishy has posted.

I was thinking that perhaps evolution has changed the chicken into what it is now, and that before hand, as the chickens where then perhaps no eggs were involved in birthing matters, maybe they began to lay eggs as they changed into chickens.

Therefore the answer is simple the egg by a matter of 100’s of millions of years (between 350,000,000, 420,000,000 and 850,000,000 million years) depending on whether you take the first egg point as arriving with the first fish, arthropod or multicellular life! LoL

In a kebab shop - the guy in front of me ordered an egg burger as he was asain and didnt eat meat.

I then ordered my chicken burger (With everything on it - yep sorry to say was a regualr!!!!)

the chicken was an evolutionary progression of the prehistoric dwellers of the planet ( if you look at the legs of a chicken they are still scaled) so it's true to say that the chicken is just an evolution of the micro organisms that became all the living beings on this planet.

birds are thought to be direct relatives of the raptors that then evolved into the teradactile and so on and so forth and like all reptiles they lay eggs.

so the egg came from the chicken that came from the dinosaurs that came from the microbes that grew in the waters of the planet that lived on the micro plankton which grew in the water.

life is an evolutionary cycle and constant, so on that point if it keeps evolving, who or what will be the leading being on the planet in another 150,000,000 years ? maybe the chicken !!!!

Ahhhhhh, but yesterdays lunch and dinner were before todays breakfast weren't they, so if you go back day after day using the same logic, then right back to when you were born Polo, 20 odd years ago, then your first meal would depend on the time of day you were born.
