"many congratulations to them x" My mother didn't know it was their anniversary as she has dementia but she may know it in a few days. It was sweet watching Dad feeding her and her resting her head on his shoulder. Nothing I ever saw when I was growing up.

"Well, it's actually 50 years (not 40 as in the song). My parents had their 50th wedding anniversary today. They looked closer and more tender towards each other today than they ever have in all of their married lives. I think not living together anymore has really helped them to be closer and to love each other. Can you see yourself with someone for 50 years? Do you find that people with long marriages are caring or indifferent to each other? My gran and grandad celebrated 68yrs of marriage but sadly my grandad is no longer with us he passed away last year but 68yrs to the same person is a miracle xx congratulations go ur family xx" A friends parents just made it to 70 years together before her mother died. We see so much about relationships ending that I think we sometimes forget the ones that endure, even through the direst of times.

Poor granny must be sad without him Memory loss is sad but the good thing is they go back in time and do remember when they loved each other instead of the bitching that happens in later life. Dad looking after her is lovely its nice that she hasnt turned grumpy like so many alzheimers patients do.

"Aww that's so endearing 25 years for me so half way there and I love him more now than when I was younger, I didn't appreciate what I had " I think that is often the case though, isn't it? We get used to the familiarity and forget to make things special and appreciate the other. Have fun with each for the next 25 years.

My Dad is a player - he's had plenty of additional sexual experience and Mum went through running at him with knives and scissors, even before the dementia. Just now that she is in a care home they seem to have found a way of showing that they love each other.

My parents were parted the same way after 44 years, was pretty worrying for the first few years as it was obvious Dad wanted to join her.. the bond is strong and lasting..

Sadly I don't think my mum got over the loss and died not long after....but if there is an afterlife hopefully they are together now

"Can you see yourself with someone for 50 years?" With my track record, I doubt it... My Mum and Dad 'just' got to 35 years (by a matter of only 3 weeks) when my Dad died. The saddest part is that, next year, my Mum will have been a widow for longer than she was a wife... ted.

" was reading it as i typed it and wasnt sure how it would come across lol. they really are the most in love couple i have ever known. dad is a typical gruff aul fukker that doesnt show his feelings, but as said, i think apart from when my nan was ill, and mom stayed at hers for a couple of weeks when we were young, and the hospital thing, i cannot remember them ever sending any time away from each other in 39 years

"I remember my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary party. My nan and grandad had a massive row after my grandad was late for the party. Where was he? He had been with his girlfriend. True story. Randy old bugger my grandad was." Sounds like my father.
