every few months i hear a thud in my house.

the first couple of times i thought it was kids throwing shit at te house, but no.

i have birds flying into my kitchen window.

i mean literally, at the pane of glass.

its not a particularly large window.

its not like the house is surupticious in any way

its not a new build so not on any kind of age old flight plan of the birds (i have been here 6 years, house has been here 15 in total)

anyone know why this happens or had it happen to them?

Glenrothes

I often get birds flying into either the back living room window and sometimes the front one. It's because they think it's a way ahead of them. Does your kitchen window have another one opposite it? Blinds will reduce this happening. Nothing worse that seeing the imprint of a bird on your window and the dead bird on the ground!

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I get thuds on my roof from time to time. I can only assume its squirrels falling off the trees next to my house.

we have lots of birds all different types in our garden because we feed them as do our neighbours, they do sometimes fly into the windows, and we have had them come into our house though not since we got our jack russel.

if they go into our shed i notice they panic and keep flying into the window sometimes, they dont realise its a window.

Yes they fly into our patio door and our bedroom window too its not unusual. I think that some of them can't see glass.

You can stop this from happening quite easily by fitting an automated and fully integrated air defence network around your house. For starters you'll need the basics. A ground to air missile launcher at each corner and an intercept radar on the roof, I would also suggest a roof mounted 20mm minigun too for intercepting incoming missiles and bird poop, especially as its blackberry season and purple turds look unsightly...

it will be a male bird trying to scare his reflection from his territory.

quite common apparently.

The only birds i see are the pigeons shagging on the roof opposite, damn birds get more than i do, lol.

Minus the snipers, but yes, very similar.

If you want snipers I'm sure the neighbourhood chavs would be more than happy to come round with their air rifles...

Try advertising on here for minions. You should do pretty well if you promise to treat them badly

I used to get this all the time. Pulling blinds down or curtains had no effect. The only thing that worked was putting film on the outside if the window to prevent the birds seeing their own reflection . We had a massive crow that used to throw itself at the window and peck its reflection all day.
