Are you a Newbie? Have you been lurking..??

If you're either new to Fabs, been around a bit, but never been brave enough to post or comment in the forums, or normally just like to lurk looking (and hopefully chuckling sometimes!) at what we all get up to on here, now's YOUR chance to jump in!

Feel free to come and say Hi! here, say what you like, comment on something that's been on your mind - you name it!

You'll find 'most' of us who've been giving their tuppeny worth for a while to be a kind, welcoming bunch really...

'Most' of you (and I don't include you in this as I can't say I've ever seen you post before), i.e. the 'forum clique', are quite the opposite, and actively shut down new posters and put other 'lurkers' off from becoming them.

I shan't name any names of course - that's just my own personal opinion from a long time following the forums and occasionally posting myself.

Ever since I have been on Fabs the forums have been accused of having a clique, that newbies are attacked from all sides and shut down, put off etc as you say. Years ago I was a Mod on another completely unrelated forum on a well-known website for a while, and I can assure you what goes on here is VERY well moderated and is nothing compared to what went on there. Unfortunately, it is the nature of open forums where the contributors identities are hidden - people can hide behind them and, on occasion, do some things which appear quite callous. However - that's what we have mods for here and, although we moan about them quite often, they do their job pretty well.

Open forums are the same the web over - they are a bit like a debate in the House of Commons... and you know what they can get like sometimes....

ted.

We're long term lurkers and just getting into the swing of posting over the last few weeks.

We've both learnt a tonne from the forums, especially when we were very nervous newbs. Reading the forums helped us to find answers to questions we had about swinging generally as well as helping us to know that everyone is nervous initially and that all sorts of people are enjoying the lifestyle for all sorts of different reasons! We love the variety of people here.

Imho online forums are a bit like a lens placed over life, human nature and people generally. It takes all sorts and there's always drama and disagreements and that's ok as long as it doesn't go into the realms of bullying or victimisation. With that in mind it's really easy to take the written word out of context, it can be very difficult to put across and interpret/read tone. It's also very easy to transfer insecurities etc - skewing personal perceptions of posts. I've done the latter myself (Mrs) on bad days, on those days I don't post, close the tablet down and go do something else

Overall we find the forums to be very friendly, informative and welcoming!

So come on newbies and lurkers, jump in and join the mad fabulousness that is the forums xx

I've been on here for about 5yrs now and people have made reference to forum cliques since day one.

Some people will comment on every thread and some will be more selective. It's easy to convince yourself that the regular posters are members of the "Forum Mafia" if they all post on a particular thread and even more if they are posting an opposite view to the thread author.

I was a newbie once n I can't recall feeling I was being excluded in any way

Over time people get to notice regular posters but I don't think generally that anyone is given the cold shoulder. Some posts don't elicit a response but that may only be because no one has an opinion or comment to respond with at that particular time.

I may of course be speaking from my throne in cloud cuckoo land lol

Some threads are pretty emotive in their subject and therefore will have members posting quite passionately. Guilty . What you have to remember is that people are allowed to critique others' opinions and, oh they do! What the person on the receiving end must not do, is take it personally.

On the forum I moderate, our philosophy on one of our sub-forums (political) is: attack the post but never the poster.

Honey, anyone with low self-esteem has to raise it from the inside, no-one else can do it for you. If you rely on the kindness of others to boost your esteem you will as likely discover there are others who will do just the opposite.

The Town by The Cross

I read more than I post.

I ignore more than I read.

I've never found it cliquey.

I could do without the whining accusations of those that won't join in for one reason or another and attempt to lay the blame for their feelings and inadequacies on others.

Instead of 'That's a mean thing to say. You are nasty.' They should try something nearer the truth , such as.....

I don't understand what you mean....

I didn't like what you said but don't

know why....

I don't agree with what you said so will lable you something horrible.

Your point of view is different to mine so I will become defensive and accusative and shout that you are out of order.

I will also blame it on the forums and all forumites and say that FAB is cliquey.

I will take it personally and make a personal insult against you.

I haven't had sex for years and i'm uptight and my balls are near exploding.

I am having p.m.t / menstrual mood swings and will take it out on you.

I will send you a 'watch it' message so no one can see what I am saying.

I will message admin and say that you don't like the same sex as me, you are fake and should be banned.

That'd be closer to the truth.

I enjoy reading here depending on who is posting / bantering. I steer clear of whiney types and ALWAYS give them the last word.

There's room for all though

so welcome.

Hiya newbs n lurkers...I was a newbie once and convinced that all the regulars had met each other on many occasions and although not cliquey I initially thought it was tight knit. I jumped in with both feet and started posting - got flamed a few times but also got included and now it's my home from home (yep, I have no fecking real life)...I have had the pleasure of meeting maybe 15 or so regular forumites and I comment on threads regardless of whether I know posters personally or not. It's always nice to get some new blood as it allows me to maybe find some new victims for Taz when its personality is dominating Caz and Daz...so newbies, does this hankie smell of chloroform

"We're long term lurkers and just getting into the swing of posting over the last few weeks.

So come on newbies and lurkers, jump in and join the mad fabulousness that is the forums xx"

I'm a bit of a serial lurking, but have become a tad braver and gobby lately. Have found myself in hot water a couple of times, and no doubt will continue to do so, but that's just me

Love the forums, and the fact it's full of such, a diverse range of people, with such a wide range of opinions, have been fortunate in my short time here to have made a few good friends, and will continue to lurk about, love the craic, one thing though be warned, it's very addictive! So welcome one and all!

Form an orderly queue at the door strait jackets will be handed out accordingly

Anth x
