Cap their wages and the footballing equivalent of Kerry Packer will come along and pay them exactly what they're 'worth'.

It's just market forces, happens in all industries if there's a demand for a particular skill.

I don't even like football but I'll defend anyone's right to earn whatever they can throughout their careers (and footballers careers aren't particularly long and it's probably only the top 3 or 4% throughout the world who earn anything close to that).

And don't anyone start with the soldier/nurse/care worker argument as there's no one in those professions that would be doing it if they could be an F1 driver/footballer/golf player etc.

I’m all for leaving it to the supporters of any club willing to pay that much to decide if it’s morally right or wrong…

I don't like football either, and think the money that's spent is stupid, but can't argue with the above.

you cant blame the player for taking the money the blame lies squarely with the idiots that offered it.

"you cant blame the player for taking the money the blame lies squarely with the idiots that offered it."

A (in)famous tale from a few years ago...

Seth Johnson went into the boardroom to discuss his contract, him and his agent went in saying "Ask for £20,000, settle for £15,000." So they went in, and they were offered £25,000. "WHAT?" Seth Johnson replied, obviously shocked at how good the deal is. Then Ridsdale replied, "Ok then, £35,000" Thinking Johnson was unhappy at the terms

It's obviously managing well enough without a dictionary, so I doubt football would be missed.

Looking at it realistically, with football earning as much as it does through sponsorship, tv deals, merchandise and ticket prices, isnt it only fair that the players earn a large wedge of it rather than it all going to the fat cats in their posh offices who sit and do relatively little?? Some may argue prices should be lowered and therefore wages lowered, but we live in a capitalist society....its not gonna happen....im not saying its right, just that u cant blame the player!! Peace!!
