Fred Dibnah a recycled victorian

I met Mr dibs many times and what an interesting guy to talk to so knowledgeable on any subject....and if you got him on to steam or trains then grab a chair

My last memory of him was at hollowell steam fair in northants on a blistering hot day there he was flat cap on signing autographs and nothing was to much to ask him.

Sadly missed....and a complete recycled Victorian born in the wrong age.

R.I.P Fred.

I don't recall anything about being bad to a wife will have to look that up !! but he did leave out of his will his last wife ..Sheila who promptly started a law suit when he died that failed to get some of his estate.

Sheila ended up with nothing and fred left 1.2 million so where that pile went who knows !!.

His natural successor is a motorbike racer called Guy Martin. Youtube "the boat that guy built".

Very funny guy, broad lincs accent, talks way too fast, drinks gallons of tea, has childish enthusiasm and delight for mechanical things. And rides bikes down suburban isle of man streets at 170mph......

Guy wanks a lot too , if you listen to his confession on The brilliant TT closer to The edge video , Fred Didnah has The charisma and knowledge to explain The function and beauty of engineering , ...as for him being born too late ?...without such people who would inspire ?...Prof Brian Cox also has this abilty to make a seemingly uninteresting subject exciting ...we need more people like these ....RIP. fred

NO....my accountant is about as exciting as watching flys mate all he goes on about is tax and figures and cups of tea

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Never met Fred ( ) but his Aveling roller is at the Great Dorset Steam Fair as I write. They had a world record attempt at getting as many steam rollers rolling a piece of road at once on Saturday and I presume Fred`s roller was one that took part.

I did hear that Fred`s home and yard was left un-attended for a while and suffered vandalism which was a huge shame. I hope it`s much more secure now!

It's now a working museum and has been repaired it's a fascinating way to spend a couple of hours

Two talented men with a passion for engineering. Diving into the depths of how something works, and what is involved in making it work. How the individual parts are made or forged etc..

Found all their programmes interesting.

Our son (who was 6 at the time) met Fred at a steam show once. His opening line to Fred was....me and my dad watch you on the telly..He had his pic taken with him and Fred sat on the steam roller. PersonallyI enjoyed the demolition side of the shows. Care free attitude 100ft in the air on 2 scaffold planks and bit of tubing..

Brilliant! I`m glad to hear that all the work he put into that place hasn`t been swept away!
