I hadn't thought of it like that. I just thought he suddenly realised Britain no longer has The Empire (apart from old cinema's that are now bingo halls).

Maybe we are a bit sick to the teeth of seeing young men and women arriving at our airfields before making the last leg of their journey..

Politicians across the ages have often found it easy to be talking with big cojones when its not their own who are in the front line..

as for the soul searching, maybe we are as a Nation starting to realise we cant for many reasons be the one who steps in every time..

I’m not completely opposed to Britain reducing our active participation in first wave military intervention around the world……

The world has changed dramatically since the days where our economy was able to withstand the financial cost of being a main player in policing world events where armed conflicts require the intervention of external assistance to bring about a resolve.

But if this is the start of Britain taking a step back from the front line role…

I hope the British people can support any subsequent reduction in the costs of maintaining our military services with good grace.

I hope we can all accept that might result in making some service personnel unemployed and a loss of those ancillary jobs of people work in occupations who's business rely the money that filters back into our economy via all aspects of maintaining Britains military machine…

Because otherwise we really will have become a nation whose people have lost the ability to judge the merits of cause and effect with any consensus that warrants claming countries should be accountable for managing their own actions or inaction’s....

This ^^^ too many young men dying needlessly ...too many politicians sticking their diplomatic noses in tribal issues ...its time to rebuild Britain ...but then again ...their personal space in Britain is doing very well ..not only do we not have a leader at The tiller , we don't seem to have a crew either, ..I can picture some eskimos sitting in an igloo talking ...' Those potty Brits are at it again ' ....' yes and they have nukes ' ...how angry and violent we must look to some .

Its already happening. Army units are being amalgamated and reduced, as are RAF and Navy strengths. Army 2020 reorganisation is to reduce regular troops and replace them with TA troops, which means people like me are losing our jobs. The Defence Infrastructure Organisation and Defence Equipment and Support are going Government Owned, Contractor Operated within the next two years, and are reducing personnel a lot. 16000 redundancies last year in the MoD, with just as many due this year.

The Government seem to want the Forces to be able to go and sort out yet another Middle East dispute, but don't want to pay for it. I am surprised the Tories are surprised at what happened. The UK population are well aware of who gets brought home in a box when it all goes tits up, and they are well aware that the Forces are being reduced. Why should we have to pay for yet another wasted fight?
