Hi there. Before I continue can you give an honest and truthful opinion on the subject not what you think should be correct, sorry to be blunt but it's a sensitive subject .

My ex partner was diagnosed with epilepsy 1 month ago. In the past 5 years she has been off work many times after having an episode at work . She's a bank clerk and was once again taken to hospital yesterday, from work , the second time in three weeks . Work issued a verbal warning for a cash indifference 3 months ago and also recently, last week said hr are looking into the amount of sick leave she has had, 2 months this year alone. I feel they are trying to manage her out if the company . If they offer her a job in a less stressful environment , as these are stress induced seizures , and she can't get to the new work place fir whatever reason timing, finances ie travel costs etc. and she won't take that position can they say that they have offered an alternate role but because she won't take it they feel that the role that she's in isn't suitable and therefore no job??

I can see it from the company side but also that the job seems to be a key factor in the seizures, ie she's being watched very carefully .

Any help would be great and yes I know about dda and employment laws ish but there is always a way to manage you out of the business.... I got managed out myself once x

There is too little information to give an informed opinion.

What can be said is... if the employer 'knows' the current job is contributing to ill health, they have an obligation to try and make reasonable adjustment.... which may include a different role.

Be warned... they can find themselves liable if they do nothing once they 'know' the job aggravates her condition.

People can be terminated if it is the best option or only remaining option to protect someone's health.

it is for her own health and safety, surely a less stressfull environment would be much better, and your lucky the company has such flexibility.

You are already worrying about something that may not be a problem, ie, travel etc,

so in my opinion, rather than you helping reduce her stress you seem to be adding to it.

life is short, go with the flow.

what happened to you is in the past not the future, don't transfer your past issues onto her, and her future,be happy and look forward to a different and better future.

If they are stress induced seizures, she can also ask her doctor about stress management courses. Although this depends greatly on the PCT, when I lived in Scunthorpe I was offered nothing but meds to cope with my epilepsy, as soon as I moved to Southend I was offered all sorts of stuff to help manage it.

has she been referred to OHS, I would suspect so... the report should include some work place adjustments that she will have to work through with her manager. There may be reasonable adjustments that can be made or a temp move to ah hoc work on projects etc.

Is she in a Union... mostly Accord or Unite I think within the banking industry

Not too sure what you mean these are issues SHE has brought up . Travel , she can no longer drive !! Cost of travel she cannot afford a lot ..... As for transferring past issues I am trying to find out what options she has thankyou very much !!!!!!

Op, Sorry I can't offer and constructive advice but she definitely needs to seek advice from a union representative, and if she hasn't already, occupational health but to be honest in my experience they're not always helpful in that that know little about a lot of things!

Good luck and we'll done for supporting her x

I suspect the best people to talk to will be the epilepsy society epilepsy society.org.uk I think. They should be able to advise on a nu.ber of issues includng potentially assistance with transport costs and hopefully some guidance on managing work related issues.

Oh and most local authorities offer half price bus travel if you can't drive due to medical reasons.
