I would say depends if he is used to being out?

I made a fatal mistake doing so this time last year.

I worried myself sick when one of mine wouldnt come in and was getting up every 30 minutes until he did come in ......... you won't sleep and will only worry

No he's not a proper outside cat but has been out overnight a couple of times. There's only so many times I can come down and shake biscuits at both doors though lol.

Luckily for him just before calling it a night he has turned up

He'd be lucky, my room is in the attic lol he is bloody loud though!

Put it out next time through your window on a very long piece of strong cord and when you think its time for him to come back wind the cord back in. A winch may help with the last 20-30 feet.

just leave the door open six inches, wedge it with a chair, then he wont feel shut out when he comes home

Im sure ive seen somewhere on the interweb, a wonderfull new invention where you have a small flap thing in your door specialy designed for cats to get in and out !!

To be honest the two cats I've had for 9 years have never been that bothered about being out and about, in the winter they don't step foot outside and when the weather is nice and I have the door or kitchen window open they might wander out and sit in the garden but don't go far at all so never even considered a catflap. The cat I got last year has become more adventurous but in general is keen to be in for the night, I think sometimes he just gets carried away chasing girls. If he seems to want to be out when the weather turns I might think about a cat flap but i have a hard time draughtproofing and keeping this house warm in winter as it is.
