The Town by The Cross

Bollocks to Jamie....... share your ideas n habits here.

I always boil spuds n root veg for about five mins.

Then I turn off the gas n get other jobs done.

Half an hour later the veg is cooked through!

Less gas. No steam.

East Grinstead

Quick meals in summer and the longer slow cook in winter so cooking also warms place up.

Baked potatoes in wood burner.

Filter kettle that can boil just a mug of water.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Cross the road and eat with family. Their electricity and gas and I'm eating the "leftover" portion so less food waste.

Plus I have to walk to get there.

Freeze any leftover veg and potatoes, when you have enough, chop an onion, and make a veg soup, can be blitzed or leave chunky

For a quick white/beach email sauce take 1 pot of creme frail he, crack an egg or 2 in and pour over your lasagne, moussaka, gratin and sprinkle with cheese.

Nom nom nom!

Or for a more traditional and lower fat version (if u didnt put cheese on!)take 1/2 pint of milk, boil. Desert spoon of cornflour mixed separately with one teaspoon of water. Pour into hot milk. Simmer. Pour over veg such as cauliflower and sprinkle with cheese.

Hmmm, I wonder why I'm a BBW

I'm perfectly serious. I was making a meal for myself, getting ready meals when I was busy with work, and throwing away food. Across the road my sister was cooking and always had some left over which would go into the freezer but not get used as it wasn't enough for another meal for two.

When I was recovering from surgery she was cooking for me and when I was able to walk again, but not allowed to do anything else, I would cross the road for my meal. We've just carried on with that.

My serious point is that if you can pool resources and share shopping and meals with others you start to get some of those economies of scale.

I do the washing up. Sometimes.

After frying my meat I always pour some water into the pan to make a nice rich dark stock, then I freeze it.

Why? Because when making a roast I like making my gravy from scratch! That's why!!

Enjoy
