Nothing Fab related and its just me being curious..

I went to a character based event over the weekend and people/actors were happy for the public to take pictures of them in poses etc..

My mothers partner is an amateur photographer and fairly nifty with photoshop. He took some snaps with actors permission and uploaded his shots for them to use as promotion for further events or self promotion.

We found though another company had copied all of my mothers partners pictures and uploaded them as their own, claiming well because the guy who was in them worked for them it was alright.

I just thought a message added on to say all photo's taken by ***** would have been a polite thing to do.

"Did he not watermark them"

no he didnt, he uploaded them back to the listed event page on facebook so the various actors/actress's could use them.

Read up on the Digital Millenium Copyright ACT ( D.M.C.A. ) if theyre being used on a website. You can complain to the domains hosting company and to the major search engines. Inform the copyright theives of the likely consequenses IE removal from the major search engines and suspended domain name ( both of which are realities )

It's a tedious process with lots of emailing to and fro but I know from my own experiences with copyright theives that it works.

Just saying that my mum's partner is a little miffed but not overly pissed off that this is happened. He didn't watermark them and did give permission for the actors to use them (so guess because one of the guys works for the company that has copied them all is kinda ok)

Its just me being my curious self wondering if he was bothered by it could something be done.

I still stand by that a little note to say 'these pics were taken by...' would have been a nice gesture

He owns the images, end of ! It's copyright infringement, so look at the NUJ website for suggested usage rates and invoice whoever stole the images with a bit added on for the infringement.

You don't need to go to court, just do as I suggested above. If they don't pay up, then decide if you want to/can be bothered to go to court.
