"Ha Mr who! I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks our conservative led local council is a pile of poop!" They've also trapped about 30 residents of the streets in too!...No one had prior notification.

Mate they handed out parking permits for the residents of the street for the apparent '2weeks' that the work should have taken when there was no need. Personally I think that the money should have been spent on the roads that are in a worse than the footpaths, but hey.... What do I know

It's all been very poorly handled, my friend who lives on the street only the received notification and the form for the parking permit a day before the deadline to get them returned. The letter itself was only dated a couple of days the deadline.

"Update: After many, many phonecalls and threats they've caved in and admitted that they didn't follow correct procedure. The work was commissioned on Friday and they were supposed to give 14 days notice to all residents. This only happened after I'd called social services and raised the issue as a safeguarding case due to vulnerable people being unable to obtain vital medical support due to negligence, the social services even went as far as to call the police! I also reminded them that the offices for our local paper were only at the end of the street they had disrupted and I would be calling them too. The trench has now been filled in and work will only go ahead once proper notification has been served by the highways agency. Score one for common sense... Thanks for the advice and taking the time to listen guys, it sometimes pays to vent... " Well done you!

It's the moron planners that annoy me, they're what we used to refer to as REMF's and their most essential qualification is that they have no common sense or consideration...

" That's true, no flying off the handle helps in that situation, but they did go against their word, did they not? AND it's up to the workers to report back to the planners if they think there could be a problem, before they've caused the problem. So it's still a failure of safety and communication when they've ignored their initial plans.

They should have exercised some common sense and knocked the door or reported that they were obstructing the entrance to a medical practice, but I'm guessing they're possibly worried about their jobs etc because, as we all know, councils are looking to save money wherever they can..

Terrible to have to think that way but unfortunately yes, a fearful worker is less of an obstruction than an endangered tax payer. You can lose your job either way these days though.

"Why didn't they just use road plates to allow access on and off whilst the temporary works were going on..?" Because the trench was a couple of feet deep and two hundred yards long! They also didn't have any.
