Talking about personal issues online

A Secret Hideaway In the caravan of love

Do you find yourself more willing to discuss issues here, with people who your likely never to meet, compared to people you know, face to face.

I think that if you have a problem of any sort, it's best to gather opinions from as many people as possible, including online.

Sometimes its easier talking with strangers, you know they don't necessarily have a personal slant on your situation and you don't have to face them at a later stage.

Sometimes though the forums can be a bit one sided, treating the op as the victim and not offering balanced advice.....not always the case though.

I think it helps a lot of people. More good comes from it here than from bottling things up.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I'm pretty much the same online and in person.

If I want lots of varied _iews then online is an expedient way to achieve that.

Depends on the issue. A lot of people on here give great advice and I've found it very useful- both from posting things myself and reading other people's questions. I like to have lots of opinions, both sides. Negative posts can be just as useful as positive ones.

Yes... and the replies will be more genuine because many here wont spare your feelings in an honest answer but better be tough skinned because some will be insulting just for the fun of it.

Sometimes, but I tend to keep my problems to myself and don't share with anyone. I might make a vague comment sometimes depending on who I'm talking to. Some people share far too much on the Forums in my opinion but if it helps them, then that's good. We're all different and will all find different ways of getting help with our issues. Nothing wrong with that

It depends on the issue. But I find people on here are more open minded in nature & less likely to judge. And more honest. In life outside here, some will just say what they think you want to hear. xx

I wouldn't really look to discuss personal issues on a forum or online with people but then I have friends in the real world who I can sit down and chat to about anything.

Don't spill your problems to anyone. It's fuxxing pointless, 20% don't care and 80% are glad you have them. I don't have any but just a thought..

If you're looking for your own thoughts and opinions to be justified then I do not think it is a good idea. I have seen threads where someone has stated something and the general consensus has been against the OP. I have also seen the opposite and also a mixed bag.

Bottom line is not to post something if others' opinions would greatly upset you.

Personally I find forums a great place to have a mini vent (let off steam) and also to share ideas or have debates. I can sometimes get my teeth into a subject (a bit like a dog with a bone) and become blinkered, but even this is a learning curve , as for the most part I am pretty open-minded.

If I have a problem I can't work out myself I have family and friends to help. My family and friends aren't the "there, there" types and don't have a hidden agenda.

showing some vulnerabilities makes you target for those that exploit...

over the years, on numerous sites, I have seen a small minority flutter from honey pot to honey pot.

I have no doubt many have felt true support from others and that is nice.

I have shared some body worries on here in the past and the majority of repliers were helpful. However it turned out that my posts offended a minority so, to not upset people, I don't do it anymore. I do try and post helpful replies if I have experience of anyone elses problems.

she left job as she not like me talking all the time about it but i had no one to turn to.so that hurt me a lot her doing that .its hard not having friends or family to confide in x

Why let the minority change how you do things? I think everyone has a right to post, no matter what it's about. Your posts may have been helping lurkers that didn't post their appreciation.

If people don't like it they don't have to read it. x

I only have to point you to LadyA01's post about Mother***** Nature for you to see that people are offended about bodily functions. Yes, its a minority, but they're members too.

I don't generally share stuff in the forums, but wouldn't rule it out. That said, of the occasional issue that I've mentioned in passing, rather than starting a thread for, I've had incredibly good feedback from others. I'm also happy to offer my thoughts on things, and do like this aspect of Fab.

That said, we're all different, and I've noticed some posts against this, from guys above. Some people don't share, some will always have what they need from others in their vicinity etc. Fabs not totally anonymous, unless you're one of those reported single guys who can never get a meet.

In agreement with Granny here on both accounts : It does help those who do and there is nothing wrong with that at all.

Would I do this myself? Probably not as I prefer the opinions of my closer real life friends, as they know me, my personality, my circumstances etc .

I don't share or seek answers for personal problems but I do give my opinion on threads started asking for such.

It can be beneficial to seek advice from strangers and for those that do this them great.

However I don't think it's right for people to give out private information about other members on here, ie typing their real names in the forum or, as we see on the forum today, posts about others health or hospitalisation. Now maybe those members have given their permission to do so, but we don't know this. I know that people are trying to offer good wishes but it does concern me.

So my opinion is to take reasonsibility for what you share yourself and don't offer up information about other people
