"Just heard a story about a toddler falling into a gorilla pit and the gorilla minded it in a loving way until the toddler was recovered safely ? " Wild animals are wild and unpredictable, however, us humans can generally recognise young of many other mammals, due to proportions of head to body, large ears etc. and it brings out our nurturing instinct. I should not be surprised that a higher ape should not do the same thing - recognise a baby and nurture it.

"Didn't it happen at Jersey Zoo? The male gorilla was fascinated by the little boy, who had knocked himself out. As he started to come round, the male got a wee bit agitated and scared because the wee boy was distressed, but it was an amazing thing to see. It's probably on YT. " It did and I was there at the time.... It was amazing to see him stroking him and protecting him

There sense of smell is apparently 1000's of times more sensitive than humans. My dog knows 8pm when he gets his dentistick treat so if you come home from work at the same time everyday then the chances are they will be expecting you. Wild animals seem to be able to detect earthquakes before humans know anything about them, probably domestic animals too.
